ipod & running
OK, so i'm old. I don't have an iPod yet and am about to buy one. However, I don't think the earbud type of headphone will stay in my ears. I have a jack for my cellphone that has an in-ear jack and it's always falling out. What is your experience exercising w/ iPod earbuds? Does anyone have any product recommendations for the old skool headphones that will stay on whilst running?
TIA

My earbuds work great- I love them and they stay in really well. My wife say sthe make her ears hurs and they won't stay in for her.
Figure they come with the ipod, so try 'em out and if they don't work, get a new pair then.

I have some with a little piece that goes over the top of my ears to hold them on. They get really hot though!

mine (and I am a woman) hurt my ears. I have really small ears and they just don't fit. My husband doesn't have any problems with his.

The earbuds hurt my ears too and don't stay in. I just use regular old earphones from Radio Shack that cover my ears. I haven't tried the ones that clip around your ear though.

I'm chime in --earbuds hurt my ears and never stay in (I thought I was the only one!) I buy regular old walkman-style earphones at Target. 10$, work fine.

If you go for the over-the-head type and sound quality matters, the Koss Porta Pro and Sennheiser PX100 seem to be consensus picks. I own the Porta Pro (the PX100 wasn't out yet when I bought the Porta Pro, back in the days of the original Sony Discman) and it is darn good sound and a fairly sturdy unit for something that collapses and folds up. I don't remember exactly what I paid but maybe something like $40. There are certainly cheaper things.

i'm a mac geek but i'm the first to admit the headphones that come with the ipod hurt my ears and don't stay in. i've tried several different headphones and my favorite so far are- V-Moda Roxx, they're kind of pricey at $99 but not bad compared to others that are marketed to audiophiles. like i've said, i've tried many types and brands... these stay in my ears and like others i've had come with different size ear canal gaskets to ensure the perfect fit. not to mention they sound awesome! good luck!

The ear buds that came with mine hurt my ears to. I bought a new pair of buds at Staples for $20. They are called Skull Candy and they are awesome. I bought the pink ones so part of the proceeds also go towards breast cancer research. BONUS! They come with three different size ear canal thingys. I use mine while on an eliptical trainer and have no problems. Good luck. You'll love an iPod!

ear buds hurt my ears, too, and don't stay in. I use an old set of headphones from a walkman when exercising with my ipod.

There's two things that I've noticed to look for when buying earbud style earphones, I should know, I have about a dozen or so including a set for underwater activities... The first is look for something that has a soft insert, they help mold to your ear and create a snugger fit... Second, there's multiple brands that come with several size covers to fit different size ears (again, usually with a softer insert)... Here's a link of reviews that have a close comparison to the only pair I've ever fallen in love with.
Hope this helps! :)

Sennheiser has a sport line
Sennheiser has sport earphones. I have trouble with the earbuds falling out or moving around on me so I bought a pair of these that sort of twist in your ear to make a snug fit. I really like them although on my 10 mile run I was ready to have them out of my ear...but I would assume that with any earbud after almost 2 hours!

I wear hearing aids so the ear bud style headphones don't work at all for me. I found that a pair of headphones that actually hook onto the ear work really nice, and are usually really comfortable. It's just a curved plastic stem (similar to an eyeglass stem but thicker) that sets on your ear and stays there. I use mine running and they never fall off.

I love Macs, but the earbuds that came with my iPod Nano SUCKED. I tried once to run with them and turned around and came home and tossed the thing on the couch. Next day I went to Best Buy with the intention of buying the typical "headband" style from the 80's. Instead, I found a really great earbud alternative - they're earbuds but have an attachment that go up and around behind my ear so they'll stay in place and are comfortable. I really don't feel it at all. The brand is Phillips and mine are black, (I don't know if they have a special name), and I got them at Best Buy for about $15, I think.

Hi, 5:30 poster again. I found a link with a good photo of the Phillips set at Target.com, $12.99 there.

Add another one to the 'don't fit, hurt my ears and fall out' club. I LOVE my Sony sport over-the-ears headphones. They were a little more expensive but have great sound quality and comfort.

Ditto on Sennheiser as a good pick. I like the ones that go over the ear and around the back of the neck personally.
Buds that work while exercising on the elliptical won't necessarily (in my experience) work as well for all of the movement (and sweating) of running...I've tried so many that have either hurt my ears or continually fall out and I have neither of those problems with this Sennheiser set.

can't stand the ipod earphones. I tried them once and they actually hurt my ears when I was working out but I love my ipod so I bought those big "dj style" headphones. Not pretty but very comfortable.
