very embarrasing problem
I love to walk but I have on several occasions had such an urgent need to go to the bathroom (#2) that I can't make it home or anywhere - My mom has the same problem except worse and has these accidents more regularly. She has been worked up and placed on several different med trials with some success. My problem only happens when walking for exercise (not strolling) and it has made me afraid to walk even though it's infrequent I have no idea when it will happen. Does any one have similar issues? Any suggestions??

You should consult your doctor about this one. Good luck!

I have had similar issues, not to the point of an accident but I wasn't sure If I could make it. I found walking in the evening is a better time for me - I quess my system is done working by then.

definitely, go to the doctor. You did not mention having any incontinence problems any other time except the "workout walk." If this is your only walking or exercising, then it may just relate to muscle tone (depending on your actual size and how low your parts are). Best bet is go to the doctor. More than likely, it can correct itself. I've had similar problems, but it self-corrected once I understood the issue (non-medical). Come back if you need advice after checking with your doctor or before taking any meds.

Are you pretty new to exercise? Because then you could probably put off the doctor visit for a bit.
If it's causing you to move your bowels more often, e.g. twice a day instead of once a day, this is a healthy improvement (well, as long as we're not talking diarrhea here!). But if this is still more than you want to deal with, try to time your walks to occur after your usual BM (I have a friend who does this).

yes, I had this problem. I make sure I eat a good fiber rich cereal every morning which after a couple of days will make be quite regular... in the morning right after I eat. Then I can walk without fear. If your system is faster and more frequent, then you might not be as lucky as I am. It is a real exercise killer. Another alternative is to get a treadmill and walk inside.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I am not new to exercise, the first time this happened was probably 15 yrs ago. It's probably happened 6-8 times and almost always when walking. Sometimes if my bladder is really full and I ignore it I will have an urgent need to stool which has become a problem if I'm not near a bathroom. But usually the full bladder is not the issue with walking as I make sure to go before I leave. I'm not regular so timing a walk doesn't really help, I may need more fiber. I do have a treadmill and also enjoy workout videos but I wish I could walk with friends with confidence. I have not consulted a doctor just because I've seen my mom go through so many tests with several possible dx and a few different meds - not really fixed yet. But thanks again, I will reconsider seeing a doctor.
