Why is my stomach so upset?
Why is my stomach so upset? I have eaten like crap my whole life. I have paid no attention to calories, fat, or my food choices. I now have been watching calories and what I eat, trying to eat healthy and lose weight but every day lately my stomach hurts so bad. I have loose stools, stomach pain, and I have to go NOW when I go to the bathroom. It really is an unpleasant side effect to losing weight. Anyone know why?

It sounds like you may want to go see your doctor. Maybe you have a food allergy? IBS? ?? I don't think anyone on PT is going to be able to diagnose you. Sorry.

Sounds like you may have added too much fiber too fast. I did a residential diet program for a week, and we were on 35g of fiber a day. I had already been getting 20g, so the side effects weren't too bad for me, but people who've been "eating crap" their whole lives generally get maybe 10g a day. That's a pretty dramatic change for your intestines to accommodate, and it takes time to clear all the, ahem, backlog and establish a new normal. They were constantly going to the bathroom, had mild stomach cramping and gas issues.
Alternatively, have you added something to your diet that you hardly ate before, that maybe you're allergic to? Like seafood or dairy? Something to think about anyway.

Why is my stomach so upset?
I would agree with the above comments. It may be a good idea to go see a doctor. Mabe since your body has been digesting "crap" and with you eating good food now, that mabe a food allergy or intestinal issue like IBS needs to be considered. Good Luck

FYI, IBS is usually stress-related, not diet-induced...

6:14: That's a myth. IBS is related to more than just stress. Certain foods act as major triggers. For me, fried and oily foods give me the worst tummyache in the world.
It's kind of a mystery condition at the moment with everyone's case being very different than the next person's. That's why there's no "cure."

OP comments here...
OP here.... I am on weight watchers. I have been eating limited sweets, mostly the lean cuisine or ww packaged foods, turkey burgers, stuff like that. Nothing out of the ordinary. Veggies...
It's not pain per say, it's just that I have to go and I have to go NOW feeling of stomach upset. I don't think that I have any food allergies. It is stuff I have eaten before. I just think my body is used to junk. I guess I was just wondering if eating healthier caused anyone else to have an upset tummy too! :)
Thanks guys for the feedback.

When I've been really good on my diet, eating everything healthy, etc., and then I give in and have something overly greasy or sweet, my stomach does that too. So maybe it's just getting used to the healthy foods. If it doesn't go away in a few days, though, a doctor's visit sure couldn't hurt!

I hadd a similar onset of stomach issues 5 years ago after i started improving my eating habits. i was diagnosed with IBS which is kind of a non-diagnosis. i've learned to deal with it since then and things have significantly improved. exercise is probably the biggest help- i find regular cardio hleps a lot. fiber and enzymes can also help- yogurt with acidophilus. if you buy acidophilus in pill form look for refrigerated bottles.
