Tamoxifen and weight gain - need advice
Hi guys. I am new to this site and am looking for help. I have gained almost 30 pounds in 2 years after being put on tamoxifen medication after going through breast cancer treatment. I am exercising and dieting and am on synthroid as my metabolism has slowed considerably, but I have not lost any weight. Nothing is working and I am very frustrated and truly depressed. I am 39 and it looks like I have gone into premature menopause because of the cancer and chemo. I was a fit, healthy person before this and now I feel like a big unattractive slob. Everything seems to be working against me here (i.e., the meds, the menopause).
Is there anyone out there who has gone through a similar experience and can perhaps point me in the right direction? Right now I feel like a could eat one pea a day and still gain weight.
Thanks for reading....

I was on prednisone and went from a 145 to 370 in two years.. I know what meds can do to your body.
the good news is I did start losing weight. it took some time but I did break through it.
I know its frustrating. drugs have all sorts of side effects.
a new meal plan Im doing is the Fat Smash.. its a high fruit and vegetable plan.. Im sure if anything would kick start your body past this phase this plan would..
we have a team called fat smashers unite .. come check it out.
just be patient sweetie.. the weight does start to come off. Im living proof going from 370 to now 198.8
hope this helps a bit.. good luck on your journey.

On tamoxifen
I to have been on tamoxifen for over a year and have noticed the weight gain. I am 44 years old, with 4 kids and very active. I have been runnig for 7 months now. I started out weighing 170 after chemo, I am at 152 right now. The first ten came off fairly easy. But then it got tougher to lose. Right now I'm at a stand still. I just started drinking alot of green tea, and more weight training, so hopefully it will help. Running probally helps me more out mentally than anything, keeps me off anti-depressant drugs, makes me feel good about myself. If anyone else has any good advice on loseing weight while on tamoxifen, I would love to hear it.

I have been on tamoxifen now for a year and a half. Didn't have any side effects whatsoever during the first year on it.
Then it ALL hit!!

Weight gain, night sweats, mood swings, joint pain - the whole lot. Periods were normal for first while then down to one every 3 months then I had nothing for 6 months. I felt so bad that I took the matter into my own hands and stopped the drug at the beginning of June - knowing that I would go back on it again - only off it 10 days when I had a period and felt the bloated feeling leave almost immediately. Have lost 6 pounds in weight so far.

At the beginning of the year I only had to look at food and the weight went on (right round my middle mostly). Don't know about the weight watchers thou - maybe a few of the ladies on here could help - I thought I had read somewhere that if you were on tamoxifen then it would just be a waste of money going to WW as it was the drug that kept the weight on and not the amount you ate - but not sure about that one.

I have a review appointment with my onc in 2 weeks so I guess he will say to get back on it asap - but until then I am enjoying my wee break off it!
