How many calories a day???
Just wondering, how many calories should one consume per day if they are trying to lose just a pound or two a week. I know I could go to the online calculators, but they tell me over 2,000 which I do NOT want to consume. I am over 200 lbs, but I really want to cut back. How many calories are you consuming to lose weight is the question?

how many calories a day are you consuming now? when you aren't losing weight? total that up for a week or so to see what you average and then subtract 500 calories from each day from that total and you should lose a pound a week. add 250-500 calories burned from exercise each day and you'll lose another 1/2 -1 lb a week.
If you are going to a reputable website and it's giving you 2000 calories a day at your weight i don't think that is unreasonable. I lost quite a bit of weight eating 1700 calories a day and I weigh a lot less than 200 lbs. Try it out-it sounds like more calories than it is. Your body is probably used to taking in a lot more.

One thing I read is that you should take the number that you want to weigh (for example 150 lbs) and then multiply it by 10 and that is the number of calories you should consume per day to achieve that weight.

depends if your a woman no less than 1200 cals, guy - 15-1700 cals; but if your working out you can get away with eating more cals.

Perhaps you should eat around 2,000 to start off. You should not cut your calorie intake so drastically, especially since you must have consumed well over 2000 to reach over 200 pounds. This should be a lifestyle change, not a diet. You'll just end up hungry since you're not used to it and binge. Plus, your body may go into starvation mode if you suddenly cut a huge amount of calories. I've been able to eat around 2000 calories and lose weight (1 pound a week) and I'm under 140 pounds, although the reason I haven't met my goal is that I struggle with emotional eating. Just eat healthy, balanced meals; eat when you're hungry, stop when you're full; allow yourself a treat each day and you'll lose the weight! Good luck.

and don't eat too little
If you undereat, you body can start to go into conservation mode and will stop brunign as many calories. So it has to be a balance.
