Walking enough?

I posted this under another thread, but I thought I would post it on its own.
I have started to walk 2 miles every morning and want to start walking 2 in the evening. Not sure if that will happen, but I will stick with the AM walk. I have 125 to lose and was wondering if the walking is enough. I also watch my calories and try to keep it at 1000-1100 a day. I am on the Special K diet so that is helping, although I am starving. Any insight?

Walking that much and eating so little will only have a negative affect on your health. You need to eat more if you're going to be walking that much.

Walking about 15-20 minutes after you eat will help your metabolism keep it's speed up, so that's a really good choice! I would also reccomend that you change how you're eating too, though. A better % is 30% veggies, 30% protein and 30% carbs, with a sharp eye on your fat intake. Hope this helps!

I walk as soon as I wake up and eat after I am done. When its cooler at night I will start to walk then as well, probably after dinner.

More Calories and Lots of Water

You sound so motivated!!! It sounds like you need more calories though. The formula is to take you weight times 13, 14 or 16 based upon your activity level and arrive at a daily caloric level and then subtract 500 calories per day if you want to lose 1 lb per week and 500 increments thereafter to increase weight loss. But be careful of 'starvation symdrome' ( in the face of too low a calorie level the body protects itself and becomes stubborn about losing and makes you crazy hungry). Eat lots of protein and 'good' carbs.

Ditto, you need to be eating more calories. Nobody should be eating below 1200 calories if your a woman and 1500 calories if ur a guy. Don't be afraid to eat. Not eating makes your body hold on to fat, your goal should be losing body fat not "weight". Weight could mean water, fat or muscle. by not eating enough your wasting away muscle not necessarily body fat. If you eat right, workout right then you have a good chance of getting rid of it for good. Losing pounds shouldn't be torture, its not rocket science just eat clean and expell those calories by working out. Trust me women and guys on fitness magazine eat more calories than people going on some weird bogus diet. Alot of then don't go any where near 1500 in fact some of them eat above 2,000 cals and then look extremely lean and trim. Thats something you should think about..

9:13 I just did the formula and it says I should eat 3238 calories a day in order to lose one pound a week. How is that possible. Thats eating almost a pound a day. I multiplied by 14 since I walk 2 miles a day but that it all. Plus its only for about 45 minutes. So can you explain to me how that it possible. Eating almost a pound a day will help me lose a pound a week????

Download walking music. A blend of electronic music such as House and dance rhythm. This 33 minute song takes you on a walk using progressive beats that increase in speed then decrease on the end to give you a great walk with a nice cool down. Not much talking in this song, just you and the beat. A small intro and a reminder at the 15 minute mark if you desire to return to your starting area. You will probably burn around 450 to 600 calories if you keep up with the beat.

up your food intake and continue walking.. when you dont eat enough you just starve your muscles.. muscles help you burn fat. you do sound very motivated. I lost my first 165 pounds purely by walking and watching portions. you dont have to starve yourself to lose weight. its feeding your body the right amounts of the right kind of foods that helps you lose weight. maybe look into the fat smash plan. I love it and lost 11 pounds so far with it.

Re: the calculation that you can eat 3000+ calories and still lose weight. Don't forget that it takes a lot of calories to maintain an overweight body. That's why you'll still lose even though it seems like it's too many calories - it's not enough calories to maintain your weight. As you lose weight, recalculate - eventually you'll need to eat a lot less than 3000 cals/day to lose. Hope you've kept at it!

PLEASE O.P., do not let the confusion of all the calorie calculating keep you from getting out there and walking! You are taking some great strides!!! When working for a doctor as a specialty weightloss counselor, we would advise between 1700-2000 calories a day for the level of activity & weightloss you are desiring. Then after a loss of 50lbs, cutting down to 1500 calories would be the next step. Do you have any diabetic concerns? If so, seeing a doctor may be the best route to go. Congratulations on taking these steps & we are here to help you do this!!!

OP here. Yes I am keeping it up. I have upped my walking to 3 miles a day and eat between 1400 and 1700 calories a day. I now look at food as a necessity and not as a reward. I look at food and think to myself whether it is worth it or not. Like if I am at the movies, I ask myself if that popcorn with butter is worth it, and then instead I get a diet coke. It is a long journey, but I am commited to it this time. I cahlk a lot of it up to this site. Thanks to you all...

Good luck! If the Special K diet is working for you, that's great. I don't think it works for most people, b/c there's almost nothing "filling" in the 2 meals that consist of cereal - that is why you're hungry! Add some fats, protein and fiber to each meal, and you won't be starving.

Congratulations, OP! Here's something that might help- I've found that if I exercise before I eat, I'm less hungry.
