Greening Your Lifestyle?

Hey, what have you done - if anything - to green up your lifestyle? Are there any products or services you've started to use?

Do you have any big dreams?

In the last 24 hours, what did you do that was green?

This is one of those drop in the ocean questions...so general it's difficult to answer...SO I am offering the above reframe....which is also a little too big.

But anyway, yesterday I recycled a huge bag of cans.
I grocery shopped and read where the food I bought came from and chose stuff that was more local.
I didn't buy anything on styrofoam trays

Yesterday I used public transportation to and from work. (I do everyday as I don't own a car)
Worked out (losing weight reduces your overall carbon footprint :-)!
I put all my recyclables in the recycling.
Turned off the TV when my roommate had left it on downstairs.
Didn't purchase a thing.

Well, i got laid off from my old job and no longer had to commute 35-45 minutes each way to the office...

My new job is within easy cycling distance- last week I rode to work 4 times, this week, should be 3 times.

I've gone from having to fill my car up once a week to not having to fill it up for the last month and a half.

We planted a small garden in the back yard and we water it with a water collected in a rain barrel.

I'm thinking pretty seriously about selling off my mountain bike because I can't justify driving 2 hours to go riding for an hour and a half.

I got rid of my office in town and moved it to my home so now I fill up only once a month. Downsized from a Pontiac Bonnieville to a Acura Integra.

Compost

Recylce so much that I only have to set out the trash can once or twice a month vs. weekly.

Don't crank the a/c. Open windows most of the time and use ceiling fans.

I make my trips count...I never start my car just to go do one thing.

Planted a organic garden.

unplug things when not in use.

wash clothes in cold water 95% of the time.

Will be getting rain barrels next year (6 of them in fact) to collect rain water.

Mow my grass only once a month.

Sorry but I could go on and on :)

I've been trying to be more conscientious about recycling grocery bags - thankfully, trader joe's and whole foods both encourage recycled bags $0.10 for each time you recycle. :-)

I'm also free-cycling things I can't use any more vs. throwing them in the trash. ( I just posted a freecycle for used deck wood and other things like that.

Trying to fill up a nalgene bottle w/water vs. buying bottled water.

I try to remember to recycle my cans and bottles as much as possible.

I also give old clothing to goodwill or freecycle if possible.

I knit and I am thinking about tyring to make handbags out of plastic grocery bags. (a recycled idea I got from someone else!)

Nothing specific to yesterday.

Didn't eat any meat or other animal products
Didn't use any AC at home, just fans.
Used compact fluorescents in almost all my home lighting.
