I don't like the biggest loser at all.
I know members here do but I think it's fake. How coudl they all lose that weight that quickly?
Fri. Nov 25, 9:07am
I like the show, though I think it's a little unfair to get kicked off... and really irritated that they didn't show the last girl Andreas dite rite what does she look like now and I can't find it online arrrgh....
anyways about this question...
they changed their diet drastically, with supervision
they are basically doing not much else with their day but exercising all day every day, all supervised
when you take people that have ALOT to lose and make those drastic changes you get results fast, now is that something that the everyday person can do?? not in my opinion, not at home... we have everyday lives to lead and can't live in a gym... some of us can;t afford professional help with diet and exercise so we do the best we can
do I think we all have the ability to lose
YES without a doubt
we just have to get off our bootys, and watch what we put in our mouths
and
accept the fact it happens SLOWLY
I think the show gives alot of people hope and if the ones on the show can keep it up afterwards it's even better, also I believe the show offers counsling to deal with issues that make them over eat and how to deal with the changes in their life
honestly if I had the chance to be on the show I would be hands down
and if you don't like it the don't watch it

I personally love the show, but I do have one major problem with it and that's the emphasis they put on the exercise. They make it seem like exercising all day long will make all that weight drop off and they almost never talk about changing their diets. I mean, they mention it here and there only in passing. Changing the diet is the most important thing in weight loss. But I know they do it that way because 24-Hour Fitness is the big sponsor.
I saw the video of Andrea and she did lose more weight. She got down to about 161 and looks really good. I'm looking forward to the final episode. My money is on Suzy.

Love it
I love this show. It makes me feel motivated. If it wasn't on so late then I would get on my treadmill right after it. lol
My money is on Suzy also.

I met Suzanne and have worked out with her about 10 times now. She filled me in on the show. They're instructed in their diet and provided w/ good and bad choices. They have to cook for themselves. They exercise 4 to 6 hours each day. She came home w/ fractures in both feet and was a "train wreck" as she put it. She looks great, wait until you see her on the show on the 29th!!! :)

Hey Kel-
Why not get on your treadmill while watching it. And as anyone who really knows exercise is 80% of weight loss. You can change your diet but that is only the small part. I bet if anyone had the time and comitted to 3 hours of exercising a day for the next month they could lose at least 25 pounds. Take into consideration your body wants and craves what it needs, so if you spend 3 hr a day working it, you are more then likely going to end up wanting to eat things like protein, veggies, fruit and good carbs. You'd be less likely to eat crap.

"And as anyone who really knows exercise is 80% of weight loss."
Whoever posted that comment, I would like to see your evidence and statistics to back that up. I'm the person who posted above that diet is far more important to exercise than weight loss, and I am a living example. I actually do have statistics to back that up, and will go look them up for you when I have time (which I don't right now), but for the moment I'll prove my point simply by telling you about me. I have lost 86 pounds in the last three years and the only reason I've been able to be successful is by becoming aware of what I'm eating and making some serious changes. There were months at a time when I wasn't able to exercise at all, and I lost the same amount of weight - about 1-2 pounds per week - than I did when I exercised regularly, because I was continually focusing on eating well.
I know people who exercise all the time but don't bother watching what they eat, and they DO NOT lose weight and can't figure out why. Not only that, there are weeks when they aren't able to exercise, and they gain weight easily on those weeks because they're still eating whatever they want but not balancing it with exercise.
Why do you think Weight Watchers (which is what changed my life) has the highest success rate of any weight loss program? (Again, statistically proven.) Because it teaches people how to focus on WHAT and HOW MUCH they are putting into their body and how to take into account calories, fiber, protein, carbs, etc. etc. And as anyone who's done it knows, you don't have to exercise in order to be successful on WW, you just have to stick to your points. Exercise is a bonus because it frees you up to eat a little more.
I am not by any means saying that people shouldn't bother to exercise. While I was losing the majority of my weight, I did mostly cardio - walked or jogged, and sometimes it was once or twice a week, sometimes four times, sometimes not at all. I now exercise 4 - 5 times per week but I'm focusing on toning up my body, and the exercise has helped me lose INCHES but not POUNDS. Diet does that. I think that people who change their diets first and start to see success that way will naturally get motivated to get into the gym or outside to be more active. That's what happened to me.
Again, if you want statistics, I'll go look some things up for you - I'm the kind of person who does tons of research whenever I have any kind of project, so I was well read when I set out to change my life by losing weight. But before I spend my time on that, I'd like to see the evidence of your claim. The reason it bothers me is because people on this site really need the right kind of help and I want to make sure they're getting accurate information.

Amen Kate-
I have lost most of my weight (10 lbs since starting my diet earlier this month) by DIET mainly. I do get in exercise but not as much as I should, but that's not my point. a year ago I was just as active as now BUT ate hugh amounts and not great choices now I'm WATCHING what I eat and it's coming off and staying off. there are too many plans, not fads, that re-teach us how to eat and they have PROVEN LONGTERM possitive effects so they can't be all wrong.

I agree with both!
The thing is that physiologically it may be more important (in terms of weight loss) to monitor your fuel and make it the best quality possible. However, exercise does have tremendous psychological benefits, and because your self-esteem immediately reaps benefits post-workout, it can inhibit you from eating junk food, which brings us back to the fuel. Also keep in mind that through exercise, your body makes better use of the food you do consume, and the more lean muscle you have, the more calories you burn at rest. We all know that it is tremendously easy to fall off the wagon, and I think the "80%" poster may have also meant that the re-gain rate would be much smaller if we exercised in conjunction with eating-- because then it would represent a more complete, lifestyle change.

I agree too
And look at it this way - how many of us realistically have over 3 hours a day to exercise? If you have to do that in order to lose weight then most of us are screwed.

Go Suzy!
It's between Suzy & Matt imo, and although Matt has grown on me, I'm rooting for Suzy!

Regarding the exercise/diet argument. Try reading Live Right 4 your Type by Peter Dadamo. Long story short- we're not all the same, and we shouldn't all exercise the same. To get in shape and deal with stress I need to do intense cardio. My best friend gets sick and stressed when she does cardio- she's all about the yoga.
We all need to eat healthy, but even what is healthy can be different from person to person- there's soooo many more reactions between our food and us than just the calorie eaten, calorie burned equation. You can lose weight and still be unhealthy.
Personally, following the lifestyle suggested for me by LR4YT, has been one of the best of decisions of my life. I've lost almost 30 pounds of fat in 3 months, lost 4 1/2 inches off my waist, been able to go off of allergies meds, no more asthma, and improved emotional and overall physical health.

You need a support group for when you feel down to uplift and push you along. that is what the show highlights for me nad that is more valuable than either diet or exercise.
