For all those involved in the constant religious/political debate here.

Peertrainer is not the place to be debating religion, social issues, or politics. It is a place to get support for living a healthy lifestyle. We all are different and that's ok. We join groups that have similar goals and put the rest aside to accomplish these goals together.

Religious issues:
For those who worship and have faith in God (or whom ever you choose), some do appreciate your prayers and quotes from the scriptures but for those who don't, please don't preach to them. I know you may have good intentions but when a heart is hardened you will only drive them further away from the Lord. If/when they are ready to embrace it they will come to you. If they say something against your beliefs just leave it alone! The Lord knows his believers and it's not your job to convert non-believers or force your beliefs down their throat.

For those non believers/agnostics/Wicans/etc, please don't take offence to religious comments, they are meant to encourage and help (from most), not to "brain wash" you or threaten you. Let the person know that you don't appreciate their comment NICELY or look past the content to me intention of the comment.

We all need to appreciate each other for who we are, not put each other down. Isn't that what this website is all about? Get away from those who don't help us in our goal to a healthier lifestyle and find acceptance and help from those with similar goals.

I understand where ALL are coming from on these debates. I was brought up Athiest with many friends who practiced "alternative religions" and was very defensive about my feelings, until I started working in healthcare. How can you tell a person who is about ready to die, in pain, and very scared who asks you to hold their hand and pray "I'm athiest, I don't believe in your conformist religion"? I'd hold their hand, close my eyes, and think about something else, like what all i still have to get done. It won't kill you to close your eyes to something that isn't hurting you. And now I'm a Christian and I love the gospel and love talking about it. I want everyone to feel the love and comfort that the scriptures and prayer bring into my life but I know that not everyone has a welcome heart to it.

No one should be offended or offending others here, that's not what here is for. If you want to get into heated discussions on religion/politics/social issues go to forums especially for that. Or if your group members want to discuss that fine, but don't go searching for a fight.

One final note: For those who think my God is a "homophobic", racist, etc, etc, etc... He loves all his children. Those who believe, those who don't, those who are straight, those who are gay, those who are terrorists, those who are fighting in a war to end terrorism, ALL HIS CHILDREN. Not everyone will receive the blessings that are out there for living a reverent and pure lifestyle but everyone is loved and does receive blessings for the good that they do do.

so you started a thread about religion to point out that these types of topics are not the reason people come to the site? do you see how counter productive that is? you've reopened the same old can of worms!! and then you end it with a note about how god loves everyone and we're all his children?! holy sh*t! literally!

why did you include politics in the title of the thread, but not in your comments?

Nice sanctimonious way to sneak your religious screed in under the guise of peace-making

If there was such a thing at PT, I would nominate this for most hypocritical thread start ever.

Curious

If I am an atheist and I say "Bless You" when someone sneezes, does that make me a hypocrite?

Nah. I'm an atheist and have no problem saying "god damn it" or "oh my god", and I'm all about the (pagan-based ritual) tree at Christmas.

To the athiest - saying 'god damn it' or 'oh my god' is not Christianlike... just the opposite. It is taking His name in vain, so you are just being true to your faith...

Does anyone else feel like the athiests are rather angry when it comes to religion... what is up with that? Christians aren't angry when they talk about religion. Must have something to do with the peace they have in their lives... I pray you all find it before it's too late.

Maybe we're just pissed because uneducated Kristchuns like you and the OP can't spell "atheist" to save your souls.

Or maybe we're pissed because every damn chance the so called "christians" get they ram their religion and "values" down the rest of the worlds throat, while acting like their **** doesn't stink.

I shouldn't have to, but I do apologize for all the Christians who think that ramming religion down others' throats is the way to get others to follow Christ. That is not the way to do it because of this very reason... it just pisses non-believers off and turns them away from Christ.

You may not like it, but I am going to pray for you, and that is all I am going to say to you. As for any rude words you may have for me because I am a Christian... I forgive you.

Just the Christian ones - they're the ones most likely to bash on about their faith. No wonder their religion describes them as sheep.

I apologize for being a Christian

I also apologize ahead of time for any grammatical errors I might incur. I am not perfect (though I do believe and follow a God that I believe to be). I don't ram my beliefs down anyone else's throat and I am not rude or nasty to anyone that believes differently than I. I make mistakes (all day long sometimes), I hurt other people (though mostly unintentionally) and I probably even act like a hypocrite sometimes (though my intentions are usually good). I am hoping that PT is not representative of the rest of the world. I have many friends and family that are not Christian. They may have different beliefs and some of them believe only in themselves but they are all a great group of people! I have never heard any of them bash people's beliefs or non-beliefs in the manner which has been done on so many threads on PT. I'm not sure why I would look for support from people that are so angry and sarcastic. Maybe all the support I need is already in front of me. And before you say it (you know who you are) I'm sure you'd be happier if someone like me left anyway because no one likes to be reminded of how bad their behaviour has been. (Do you like the proper English spelling of "behavior")?

If you haven't been behaving in obnoxious ways, I don't see any reason for you to apologize personally. If you were being sarcastic it may be easier to relate to where some of us are coming from if you think back (if you are of that age) to traveling in the late '70s & early '80s.

It was impossible then to go through an airport without being waylaid by Hare Krishnas trying to get you to donate money for a "free" copy of their book, or Moonies trying to sell you roses. Remember how annoying that was?

For some of us now, that is how our whole world is: There are Hare Christians on every corner, in our workplace, in the PTA meetings, knocking on the door, trying to get their religious version of how the world began taught in schools, on the news, everywhere we turn sometimes. And unlike the rather spacey Krishnas, who at worst danced and chanted in interesting robes, the Hare Christians accuse us of ruining the morals of this country, of being vile sinners, of bring down terrorist sent by God to punish us for our horrible, homosexual, feminist, atheistic ways. And the worst of them (Falwell was a classic example) are regularly given free airtime to spout their messages of hate. And (here is where even civilized Christians might actually need to apologize) they are allowed to do so with little challenge.

Now, if as seems possible from your spelling, you are British, or Australian or Canadian, you may not realize how pervasive this all is in the US. Or if you are in the US, and have just picked up those "odd" Brit spelling habits, maybe you should spend a few days trying to look at this country through the eyes of an atheist or even a member of another non-majority religion. If you ever read the book "Black Like Me" in the '60s, maybe you can get an idea of what it's like.

So some of us are a bit prickly, even hostile, some days. There's a reason.

Go Darwin !!!!!!!!

Man was not created by some great being, he evolved - Darwinism. Shall I start going on about great the theory of "Origin of a Species" is and how it is the only theory that should be taken to heart?
