My diet really expressed itself as food shopping. I only bought healthy things, but the cupboards sure did fill up with stuff that I wasn't eating!

Maybe to make yourself look better in comparison, even faster!
A mean side of me totally loves watching other people stuff their face, knowing that I look better, or at least that I will soon look better!

I agree with the above poster, I used to be such a glutton but over the past few years I've changed my eating habits and now when I see other people eating in similar ways that I used to, I find myself getting really judgemental. That's so awful, but its human nature. Not that that makes it right. But I think you're right, it's a cheap way to make ourselves feel like we're better.

I disagree completely -- I think it's starvation psychology, not something most of us have any control over. This is esp. true of _shopping_ for a lot of food when we are only eating a very little, because at some instinctive level we want to be sure there is _enough_. And then of course there is too much, and it has to be prepared or go bad -- so we serve it to someone else.
