New to peertrainer
This is my first day here. I just created a group for New York professional women in their 40s-50s. I'm not sure how things work yet. One question I have is what kind of group to join. My main problem is not having enough time and energy to exercise. I do pretty well on eating, though. Does it make sense for me to join a group where others having eating issues but have no problem exercising so that we can share information? Or am I better off sticking with others like me?

I've only been here for a few weeks but I'm in three groups, and they are all different. I joined one because I wanted to find other new moms in my same situation but another I sort of feel into and I stayed. I like seeing what people are doing who aren't exactly like me but I think it depends on the type of person you are. I like the feedback from a marathoner in my group even though I am partial to the elliptical trainer. And I've lost 5 pounds so I think it's working.

Sounds good. I'm reluctant to join a group because I feel I should be committed. What if a group isn't right for you? Can you unjoin?

Let me ask this question: what does a good group member do? Log everyday? Can others read your log? I'm mostly a weekend warrior who doesn't have much time during the week. Is it okay to just log a few times per week? I don't want to join a group and be a dud. :-)

You can join and unjoin as many groups as you want. There is an Ettiquette page which has some helpful tips.
Usually group members like you to comment as often as you can. I find that one constructive comment a day goes a long way.

There are new to peertrainer groups for this.
Nancy, why don't you join a New to PEERtrainer group with me? The New to PEERtrainer pacific nw has 2 openings. I can help you get started.
Go to find/create a group, type in New to PEERtrainer in the search window and then click join. You're automatically a member.
If it fills up before you see this, send me an email at elle@peertrainer.com and I'll start another one for you. And anyone else!

Yes - you can unjoin groups.
Also, I think it's useful to be in a group that has people who are not exactly like you. One of the members in my group is an AMAZING exerciser - I swear she works out 2 hours a day 6 days a week, but she's not the best eater. I do ok (at least some times) on the eating side, but not as well on the exercising side (at least as soon as my life gets stressful). And I find it really inspirational to see her workout posted every day by the time I get to work.
