We're all meeting at an indian restaurant tonight.

I have no idea what to eat. Suggestions?

Depends on what you like

The "safe bet" chicken dish is chicken tikka masala.

Avoid kormas at all costs - lots of cream (fattening).

I usually get baigan bartha (crushed eggplant).

You can also ask for brown rice instead of white.

hope this helps

I think chicken tikka is better than chicken tikka masala. Chicken tikka is almost like barbecued chicken, whereas chicken tikka masala comes in a rich sauce.

Low-Fat Indian Vegetarian Food

Can anyone suggest a low-fat vegetarian option when eating at an indian restaurant? What would be the safest thing for a vegetarian, who is trying to lose 5 - 10 pounds, to order?

Baigan Bharta works. Avoid Aloo Gobi (potatoes, high calorie) and vegetable korma (cream sauce). They may have a vegetable curry. You could also ask them not to use ghee (clarified butter) and they'll usually replace it with olive oil which is better for you. If you get rice, get brown rice. If you get an indian bread, get roti because it is made with whole wheat (as opposed to naan which is white flour). Ask for your bread to be unbuttered. Avoid pakoras/samosas as appetizers as they are deep fried.

I might be too late to post, but still my two pence

Hi all,

When going out for Indian food, you can use this tips
Soups : Usualy the clear variety, the thick ones are no-no
Rice (Steamed or jeera rice), You can take the pulao or biryani as well but they are cooked in more oil
Daals are the best bet.. usually some lentils.. they are very good for health and also are a good protein source
When ordering roti, avoid the naan as its made from refined flour.. ask the cheff for whote wheat rotis instead.. FYI refined flour is called maida and whole wheat is called 'aata'..! If they dont have the whole wheat variety then you can go for a stuffed kulcha.. ot stick to rice instead!
Non-veg can have chicken tikka.. yeah the masala has an added gravy to it which you might want to avoid.. Try the fish sometimes, its very tasty..
A friend suggested roasted poppadoms (Papads) instead of the fried ones..
Stay away from any dishes that have the word 'malai' or cream in them..
Kormas are usually good.. a veg kurma with less oil.. yummmm
I make it a point when I eat out to ask the cheff to use less oil and butter and they usually comply..

Avoid bhajiyas, pakoras and please do not touch the samosa.. its the worst form of food for any health conscious person! Just look up the calories and you would be shocked!

Tandoori Chicken

I am sorry I got this so late. I always get Tandoori chicken it is skinless, very tastey and usually not too spicey.
