Fruits in my diet
I was on the South Beach diet for a while. They say don't eat anything white ie rice, bread, potato, fruit etc. So is it generally excepted that a banana is a bad fruit? What are some good fruits to eat for burning calories? Does anyone have an easy recipe for fruit smoothies?

I have no idea why bananas would be considered a bad fruit. They are an excellent source of potassium and B6. Very ripe bananas are not recommended for diabetics, and they are like several other fruits,
relatively
high in calories - but given a choice of a hundred calories of banana vs. one of those cookie packs - I'll take the banana every time.
My personal favorite smoothie recipe is:
1 frozen banana broken in chunks
@ 1 cup or so blackberries, strawberries, mango, or what ever
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
1 cup citrus juice
2 oz baby spinach (one big handful)
@ 1/8 -1/4 cup pomegranate juice
1-2 tsp fresh ginger
I like things pretty tart - you may need to adjust.
I don't think fruits "burn calories" any more than any other food. They are excellent sources of vitamins, minerals, fiber and a whole host of phytonutrients. Unless you are diabetic or go insane with fruit consumption (or eat sugared or dried fruit mostly), I can't see a problem with them.

Some of the lowest calorie fruits:
Oranges, grapefruit, strawberries, apricots, cherries, honeydew melon, peaches, plums
Low-calorie meaning lowest calorie count by weight (example: grapefruit has 19 cal in 3.5 ounces, grapes have 60 cal in 3.5 ounces, bananas have 89 calories in 3.5 ounces)

"What are some good fruits to eat for burning calories?"
Um...you burn calories, fruit doesn't.
Berries are generally considered the best choice because they're the highest in fiber (your body doesn't absorb those calories) and are an anti-oxidant goldmine.
Bananas are NOT evil. They are what every athlete reaches for when they need a smart energy fix with anti-cramping minerals. I wish all these stupid carb-conscious diets would stop making out like they're the anti-christ while plugging bacon as an unlimited food.

Fruit Smoothie Recipes
I have a real hard time getting myself to eat fruit - I just don't like it very much. But I do love the Berry Lime Sublime at Jamba Juice. I decided to make my own at home - its cheaper and more convenient. I simply brought home the Jamba Juice Menu and bought the ingredients for Berry Lime Sublime, which are Rasberries, Strawberries, Lime Sherbert, and Rasberry Juice. Costco has the fruits in industrial size. I put a cup each of the fruit and Sherbert in the blender, and then about 2 cups juice. It was easy, and tastes exactly the same. I wont be wasting $5 at Jamba Juice any time soon.

That sounds like a LOT of calories - particularly from the sherbet and juice. 2 cups of juice on it's own is probably 300 calories! A cup of sherbet is probably that much too! You're looking at over half a day's worth of calories from one smoothie! (Not to criticize you; it's entirely possible that you need more calories than, say, I do, or that you make up for it elsewhere. But, imitating Jamba Juice for the rest of us, or ordering a drink there, people should be aware of what they are actually consuming!)
