Someone rationalize this...

I did over an hour of cardio yesterday and an hour of weights and ate just about 1250 calories and didn't lose an ounce!!! I've been dieting for almost 2 years so my metabolism isn't the greatest, but shouldn't I have lost something?!?! I was gonna do a similar length workout today but now I'm questioning if it's even worth it...someone please give me words of wisdom or motivation!!!!

The key to losing weight is consistency and different habits over time. One day of a great workout and reduced calories is a fantastic start, but the consistency over time is what you need to acheive the results. Commit to doing this for 7 days (take a day off) and then get on the scale. Additionally, how much fiber are you eating? How many water rich foods?

I'm the original poster and I work out at least 30 minutes 7 days a week and have been for almost 2 years. And to answer your questions, I also eat tons of fruit and veggies and plenty of water (and only water, no other fluids). I take vitamins, eat a balance diet, everything!!! Ugh!

Do you do strength training? Do you do things that you enjoy physically or do you just "work out"? Are you in a healthy bmi range? What's your body fat?

I guess what I meant to ask is can you tell us more about what you're actually doing day to day? Do you have a public log here so we could see what you're doing?

Original poster here again....I do strength training nearly everyday. I should take days off but I don't, I know, not good! I enjoy working out but I also know I have to so that pushes me. I've lost 120 lbs and as of now, my body fat is still high (around 29%) and my BMI is 28.1...both high but such improvements from where I've come from. It's just so hard anymore, I'm at my wits end! The scale will not budge lately!

Sounds to me like you might be a bit obsessed. First of all there is a reason you should do strength training everyday, your muscles need to rest and repair themselves. I would go have your body fat done by a professional. You might not be losing weight because your gaining muscle, so have your lean muscle checked. Are you at least seeing a change in your body shape? You might also want to change things up a little, perhaps your body is used to your workout and needs a different structure. Either way if after mixing up your workout and tweaking your food intake you still don't see a difference I would talk to a personal trainer and see what they have to say. But first try increasing your calories by 200-300 a day, stop the weights every day and do it just 3x week and start trying to mix up your cardio. It sounds like your metabolism needs a change and the only way to do that is, food, exercise and rest.

If you're really stuck and frustrated then I think this would be a good time to see a personal trainer. You've made so much progress, 120 pounds!!! Whatever you do, don't get frustrated and quit now! If the changes to your routine that the other posters mentioned don't help you see improvement, then it's definitely worth the money to get some professional help to get past this plateau. A personal trainer can make changes in the way you workout that can help you get another jump start.

Also, I am wondering about your worry that you didn't lose weight after doing an hour of cardio and weights yesterday. If you're talking about just one day, then your calorie deficit probably wouldn't have been 3500 so you wouldn't see a full pound of loss immediately. There's also that tricky water weight that slips in there. Maybe the day before when you weighed yourself you were slightly dehydrated or maybe you had a little extra water retained yesterday. Try not to be too focused on 1 day. After dieting for two years and losing 120 pounds, I'm sure you know that it can't all be done in one day, even though we all wish it could be!

Hang in there!

I can only speak from personal experience, but whenever I do an unusually intense anaerobic workout, either resistance training or martial arts, I sometimes gain 1-2 lbs which disappears in a day or two. I think of it as having "swollen" muscles, no idea if that's physiologically accurate though. So if I did an hour of lifting weights and *didn't* show that little temporary gain on the scale the next morning, I'd be pretty excited about getting on the scale the next day.

What works for me: Take today off from your usual workouts, take a brisk walk for 2-3 miles, and look forward to waking up tomorrow!!

this is my opinion
Take a week completely off from working out
eat more, way more than you are right now, doube the amount of protein you are eating, add a huge spinish salad, and a lot of fruit, and whole grains.
get as much sleep you can
and do something fun, go to the park, go to a show

This is what helps me get to the platau. I know it sounds werid but hay it is what helps me, I try to do it every 6 months

Another thing is that I think you are doing way too much cardio
