Book recommendation about unhealthy eating

Can anyone recommend a book about unhealthy eating that would motivate the reader to eat better? I'm looking for a book kind of like The Jungle, one disgusted people about the meat packing industry and made people change their eating habits after reading.

There's a book written by the son of the founder of Baskin Robbins. It's crazy. I can't remember the name.

I have not eaten fast food, and I've only eaten beef maybe twice since reading Fast Food Nation about 8 months ago.

I also really enjoyed Small Wonders, a collection of essays by Barbara Kingsolver. At least one of the essays discusses her reasons for eating organic and locally-grown food. I found it to be a very inspiring - it sort of put all my unarticulated feelings about why I am trying to eat well into words. It's definitely not about the gross-out factor, though.

Well, mine won't repulse you.....

Anything by Dr Dean Ornish is incredibly inspirational to me. I have made alot of good changes after reading his material.

I really don't find 'repulsive' stuff that repulsive. Especially since I am familiar with how alot of food is grown and processed and I've worked in restaurants before and know what the health inspector is and isn't concerned about and it's not the stuff most people would find 'gross'. The stuff that's potenially really dangerous alot of people never think about.....

Good luck finding something really disgusting ;-)

Book by John Robbins/son of Baskin Robbins founder

The title is "Diet For A New America". I read it almost 16 yrs, agi-I was already leaning towards vegetarian eating; this book clinched it. If you have a well stocked library they may have the companion PBS show on video. Reads like a story, not preachy but informative and inspiring.

I have found that Andrew Weil has been very helpful to me. I have cleaned up my diet a lot. I really enjoyed his "Eating Well for Optimum Health" book.

Also, I have found books by Nicholas Perricone to be of benefit. "The Perricone Prescription" is full of lots of great information.

There's also a website whfoods.com that explains why certain foods are god for you. When you know why something is beneficial I think it makes you more motivated to eat healthier.

There's a book called "Fast Food Nation" that might be along the lines that you're looking for.
