OT - American Idol
Who is your favorite this year and who do you see leaving the show tonight? My favorite? Blake Lewis. He's got a great voice, is a good performer and is cute and charming.

Last night I voted for Sanjaya about 35 times. I'm trying to rise up against the American Idol machine.

ditto 3:13 poster. I didn't vote but I am all for the guy that brings down American Idol.

I really like Blake too! My favorite girl is Gina. I think they're all pretty good. I feel bad for Sanjaya - he's become such a joke. His performances are very painful to watch though.

I'm all for the success of those who deserve it. I like Blake alot, but Melissa's talent is in a league of her own.

Sorry, meant Melinda - not Melissa.

Why can't you just leave things be that you don't necessarily like instead of ruining it for the people who enjoy it? No one is forcing you to watch it. I started watching American Idol last season and while I don't think its anything that is going to increase my brain power, I enjoy some mindless entertainment every now and then, and while I will sit through his awful performance to enjoy the talents of Melinda and others like her, Sanjaya is annoying the crap out of me. It's too bad there's always people out there who will spoil it for everyone else.

i think that if no one in the mainstream media shared the opinion that sanjaya sings terribly, others would not be judging him so harsjly. he is cute, polite, sings well enough to attract an audience of teenage girls...what's NOT marketable about him? isn't that the ultimate goal of the people behind american idol anyway? i mean, who wants to invest in and try to market a contestant with absolutely no marketability? it's not like previous pop singers were soooo talented...they had a reliable fan base that would spend lots of money on concerts, cd's, t-shirts, posters, etc.

3:13 here
1:32 and 12:53
I used to be a major fan of AI but I get emotionally invested in my tv (seriously) and for years America would break my heart by voting for Carrie Underwood and Taylor Hicks. The day I said goodbye to American Idol is the day that America voted off Chris Daughtry who was far and away the best performer.
So I don't really see it as "ruining it for people who enjoy it" so much as pay back for past unjustices.

It doesn't really matter now who wins ... does it. Chris Daughtry was really talented and he has a record contract .... look at Jennifer Hudson. The talented people get rewards even if they aren't the last standing.
