Anyone have a heart rate monitor?
I've been reading about them in someone's notes. How much does it matter what your heart rate is. I understand the benefits of cardio, but I do mostly strength training.

Strength training is excellent for you. Add some cardio though for fat burning and overall health benefits. I included a link for more info.

The heart rate monitors are most useful for a couple of situations. One is if you tend to slack, or to overly exhaust yourself, in a cardio activity, it will help you stay with a plan. Another is if you are trying to increase performance in something that depends on cardio (like running) then you can plan more specific routines to spend, say, a certain amount of time at say 95% of maximum, alternating with longer periods at 80 or 85%. You shouldn't, and probably can't, maintain that high intensity for very long, but in intervals it's something of a power building workout. There are whole books on heart rate training if you choose to get into that. For most of us it's more useful to tell if you're lagging because your body is somehow depleted (heart rate is up even though you're slow/tired) or because you're slacking.
