Anyone heard that working out in the AM on an empty stomach helps burn more stored fat?

I have been reading in several sites that if you want to burn more fat to work out in the AM on an empty stomach. I actually have been doing this and am happy with the way my clothes are feeling already. I have only been doing this for 3 weeks so far

I think working out anytime helps! I work out the AM too but I must eat something otherwise I will be starving during or afterwards. I just have a handful of trail mix.

It doesn't really matter-it's all calories in/calories out, and if you feel ok exercising w/o eating anything then it is probably fine (but I would recommend having something light if you are exercising at high intensity-and absolutely having something to eat afterwards).

If it works great. My biggest concern is the lack of energy from no food (fuel) yet and trying to workout. I know working out in the morning is supposed to be best, but in my schedule that just doesn't work so it's PM workouts for me.

Just look up the question on the web and see how many say it is better if you want to burn more fat

I have heard that it is better also but I would also assume that because you are starting your day in the right mind set that it probably helps you to stay on track so you reap the benefits from that

I had this same question and made the switch to working out first thing in the morning back in late Jan. For about a month I struggled through my workouts. Now I feel great during and after them. The reason I do it: Your body's glucose levels are low after not eating during the night resulting in fat being used as a source of fuel. The downside is that muscle is also a source of fuel and you will most likely lose lean muscle mass. To counter the muscle loss I just lift weights 2 days a week to maintain my muscle mass (haven't seen any loss of strength). It depends on your goal- If you simply want to burn fat and lose weight - I recommend working out first thing.

Metabolism?

I've heard that before too. But I've also heard that if you don't eat something within an hour or so of waking up, then you screw up your metabolism. Has anyone else ever heard anything like that?
Ever since I heard that about the metabolism I've made it a point to eat SOMETHING if I'm going for a longer workout. If I'm just running or spinning or doing something that usually takes less than an hour, I won't eat. If I'm surfing, which usually takes several hours, I'll have something light.

I read anything over 30 mins is when you start burning muscle and not fat so I just workout for 30 mins in the AM on an empty stomach

Its true that if you don't eat something in the morning you won't kickstart your metabolism that day. HOWEVER, If you get up and work out- that will get your metabolism started. You can do either one or the other to jumpstart your metabolism in the morning.

6:10 poster you got it a bit mixed up..you dont start burning fat till you pass the 30 min mark..THEN you burn fat..so you are supposed to not work out for anything LESS than 30 min if you are wanting to burn fat

I think it is hard enough to stay consistent with workouts without timing them for greater weight loss.
