pregnancy test - false positive anyone?
I know false negatives are much more common, but have any of you ladies ever had a false positive? with a digital at-home test? I used clear blue easy.
Wed. Mar 28, 8:21am
I believe the tests are fairly acurate, and false positives are far less likely than false negatives because they rely on testing a hormone that is produced during pregnancy. You could take another test, but I would probably schedule a visit to my doctor to be sure.

From what I've learned false negatives happen regularly if you test too early before enough hormone is present for the test to show positive. About the only way to get a false positive is if you are on hormones to try to get pregnant those hormones can mess with the pregnancy test. If your on horomones you'll need a blood test, if not I'd say your pregnant.

I once had a doctor give me an instant strep test, and what he said was that it was like a pregnancy test...if it was positive it was definitely positive, but if its negative it could still be positive....Im assuming this is unexpected? Hope alls okay...

well, no offense, but if you have unprotected sex and get pregnant, is that considered "not expected"?
Wednesday, March 28, 2007, 9:12 AM
9:12 Enough with judgments already. It is bad enough that the board has been taken over by religious freeks!

there is no judgement in my comment, nor any intended. i am asking a valid question. even if it's too late for the OP to think about, it's not too late for others who might read this thread. an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. people who have unprotected sex should be aware of possible consequences before it's too late. do you think that's a bad or somehow judgemental message to put out there? i'm sure anyone in the predicament the OP has found herself trying to figure out would benefit from a little reflection about actions and reactions. again, no offense.

here is a link i found on google. if you punch in "clear blue easy, false positive" into the google window, you will find a plethura of info.

Even "protected" sex becomes "unprotected" sex if the condom breaks.
Wednesday, March 28, 2007, 10:50 AM
that's exactly the discussion that should follow the comment. there are all kinds of risks associated with sexual activity of any kind and pregnancy is just one of them. back-up measures are a real necessity these days!

Okay, ladies-why don't you start your own sex ed thread? Since the OP was looking to know about postive pregnancy tests and seems to be getting a whole lot more. Also, she in no way suggests that the pregnancy is due to unprotected sex, and even if it is, she is no way suggested that she was horrified or surprised by it.

who cares how the conversation got started? it's worthy of having. and anyone who opens this thread to comment on the accuracy of at-home pregnancy tests may be at risk of an unplanned for pregnancy, too. maybe she will be elated or maybe she will be distraught, maybe she's all grown up and trying to have a family, or maybe she's a young teenager who needs some guidance with respect to birth control and how to deal with a suspected pregnancy. or maybe none of those things...the topic is relevant and important and there is no wrong place to discuss this.

OP here
wow - quite a discussion I started! I would even call this an "unexpected discussion" or an "unplanned discussion." But here it is nonetheless, so now we deal with it. Perhaps I should have phrased my question a little more carefully or safely, or not even asked it at all, but I did and I can't take it back. This is what happens when you ask unprotected questions.
okay - enough with my lame attempts at humor... : )
If you like the discussion just for discussion's sake, then so be it. But if you're curious, here are the answers to the questions posed to me, the anonymous poster.
- this pregnancy is unplanned, but not really a surprise
- though the pregnancy is unplanned, the child is not unwanted and he/she will be loved - is already loved - immensely
- the judgments of others don't bother me - you're entitled to your own opinions
- I am a grown woman with a family - a big family that just got a little bigger
- I was indeed horrified and surprised by the result of the test, but that was just my initial reaction. I'm over it now and ready to be happy! : )
- I took another test and it, too, was positive. I've set up an appointment for myself for Monday.
Those of you who know me - thanks for your congratulations and support today! : )
