The seasonal seven

I just read an article in a wellness magazine I get at work and it said that the average American puts on 7 pounds between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day...UGH!

Stay strong this holiday season!!!

Not me! Not this year! I'm trying to focus on the positive. Let's try to loose 7 lbs this holiday season!

That 7 pounds sounds about right. Back in the day before I had to watch my intake, I would always gain 5 pounds around the holidays, but it would be gone by January 31 without doing anything special. However, after my 37th Christmas, I noticed that the pounds were still there on January 31, and I was horrified that I was actually going to have to do a diet. Ah... sweet memories of days gone by!

I don't trust this magazine. It takes an extra 3500 calories a day on top of what you already eat to sustain your weight to gain just one pound. 7 pounds in a month thats and extra 24,500 calories. I will buy 2 pounds but not 7, unless of course you are pigging out and not moving your body.

I definitely believe it. It can be easy to let things get away from you. I think it depends on the person and their activities throughout the holiday season. There are parties with friends, office parties/potlucks, familiy parties, parties given by business associates, parties given by an employer, etc. And don't forget the alcohol. It adds up quickly. The party season is starting and also take into cosideration that daylight savings has already occurred. It gets dark at 5:00. For some people it is the kiss of death for a diet.

I'm going into the holiday season working out 4 times a week. I might eat more, but if I keep up my consistent workout schedule I can't gain 7 pounds!! That would mean 210000 extra calories than I already eat.
