I just can not seem to stay on the wagon

each day I wake up and say this is the day.....but it is not, if I eat one thing I shouldn't then I binge all day. I have been so sucessful in the past, now it feels like I just can not stay focused on my goal. I really need to lose 20 pounds HELP how can I stay motivated??

try not to categorize foods into things you "should" and "shouldn't" eat. It sounds like your binges are guilt driven. Instead of concentrating on cutting things out of your diet, concentrate on adding fruits and vegetables and high fiber foods to your diet. Drink more water. If you fill up on the veggies, fiber and water, you won't have as much room for the food you "shouldn't" have. That's what I'm doing anyway and I really don't want to fill up on "junk" any more. I'm enjoying the healthier foods. It took a while, but if you stick with it, you notice improvements not only in your "diet" but in a whole new healthier way of life!

OP, I feel your pain. Binge eating has become the biggest crutch of my life. How to let it go, how to let it go? I've read some of the other threads on this topic but haven't had any relief yet. I just know I can't give up...

anything worth doing is never easy. if you slip. dont beat yourself up. start again the next day . decide to make good choices. I decided Im addicted to choc and I know thats not good so I am staying away from choc for a week no drinks no bars nothing containing choc. I work in a choc shop so this is not easy, but I have done it for two straight days now. you have to make a goal and bring yourself forward with will power to keep that goal.. noone else can do this for you. this is for you. this is what you need to live a heathier longer life.. think of your family and the things you can enjoy with them and friends. call a friend for encaouragements... definately add more fruits and veg and plenty of water. I drank 2 liters yesterday because I decided to. I HATE water, but I set a goal for Myself and was determined to keep it. binging and emotional eating are the worst things to do. if your upset read a book.. go for a walk.. take some you time. we all need space at times. I also have been getting up in the morning. starting a hour walk before work. helps clear My mind and I can set My mindset for the day. your mindset and heart have to be in sync. at least for Me they do or I wont stick to anything. you have to want this. you have to want to loose the weight or stay on track and maintain weight. this is not a easy battle. I definately speak from experience I lost over 165 pounds a few years back now Im working on the last 75. its hard. but I remember what I was. I look arround at people eating the burgers and chips.. it looks good, but I remember My fat pic as My bro calls it. I dont want to go back to that. so I opt for My fish and veggies or chicken.. a lowfat meat that taste good. I love to cook and experiement... also make some meals and freeze them so you have foods in the freezer ready to go. keep vegetable cut up. keep dried fruits on hand when you want something sweet. it sounds crazy but one of the biggest reeason I have lost weight was preparing things. making things easy to grab. so I didnt grab the wrong foods when hungry or feeling emotional... I have to say I like the one posters suggestion about a long shower just letting the water beat on you unloading your emotions while you feel the water wash all the moods away. than go have a yogurt or I like peanutbutter and celery. lowfat peanut butter is good and filling. I keep fresh fruit chopped in My fridge. carrots and cumcumbers as well. just some things that came to mind.but when things get hard dont quit. know the person inside of you that wants to come out is worth it. you are worth it... ok I sound like a add I know but as corny as that sounds its true. good luck everyone...

Were you ON PT when you were sucessful? Print out a page from a day where you did what you wanted to do in terms of healthy habits and re-read how it made you feel whenever you want to binge.

Take a picture of yoursself in clothes you hope to wear this summer and carry it around.

Try to be on the wagon for just 1 day, and the increase it. Don't beat yourself up for not going off wagon, just climb back on.

Don't give up! I've been struggling for 2 years, seemingly getting nowhere, repeatedly losing and regaining the same 10 pounds. But now when I look back I see that each time I "fell off the wagon" I was coming up against a challenge that I needed to overcome. Each time I fought to get back on the wagon I was learning a new skill that I need. As I've gradually worked through these challenges I've gotten stronger and now I have a whole host of successful techniques under my belt that I can call on when I need them. So just don't give up!

so you fell off the wagon...

If you keep climbing back on every time you fall off, you'll eventually get where the wagon is going, even if you didn't get to ride there!
