Fertility

A lot of my friends (in their mid 30s) that are starting to have children seemed panicked about fertility. If they don't get pregnant in a few months, the completely freak out! I am 36, and would like to start trying right now, but I don't want to be constantly worried. Does anyone have any suggestions about books on fertility and when the right time is to conceive? Has anyone tried acupunture for fertility?

Acupuncture can definitely help:) But really it changes from person to person. My mom had me when she was 41, and I have a few friends who have had children at age 42. It definitely becomes more difficult as you get older, but its completely possible. You should talk with your Obgyn about your concerns:)

You've obviously never really tried before. I don't care what your age you are constantly thinking about it, and yes once you've reached your mid-thirties your fertility decreases and it's harder to get pregnant. Webmd has some great fertility info.

I don't really believe in acupuncture, I do agree a prenatal OB appointment is a good idea. They usually like to get you started on prenatals right away and also will have lots of info for you.

My mom had me at age 35. She and my dad tried for 3 years. She went on fertility drugs and everything. She got pregnant with me right after she stopped taking the fertility drugs!

She had another baby at age 37; I don't think she had much trouble getting pregnant then at all!

Getting pregnant right away is never going to be a guarantee, even when you're young. But, the sooner you start trying, the better your chances!

From what I've read:

-Don't do it everyday (he needs time to replenish the supply)-do it every-other day.
-You are most fertile in the middle of your cycle. For me, it's a few days before day 14, and a day or two after day 14(day one being the first day of my period). This is for a 30-day cycle. (Try googling it to find out when the best time is for you). So, for me, the best time to have sex to get pregnant would be day 10, 12, and 14.
-enjoy having sex, and don't make it a chore. Don't put too much pressure on yourselves. Don't stress. New science: women's orgasms may help concieve!
-don't be underweight, don't be too overweight
-eat healthy

Good luck!

Taking Charge of Your Fertility

Get “Taking charge of Your Fertility” book. It is a MUST reading for any woman of childbearing age, and it should be read as soon as you enter puberty, even when you don't want to get pregnant. I read it in my 30-ies, not really expecting to learn anything, it turned out, and I knew embarrassingly little about my cycle.
