1 pound at a time

So I know we are all haunted daily by our weightloss goals...every time I think about it I think" AHH 20 pounds? "
the idea of losing that much weight seems so impossible to me and I think thats one of the biggest reasons that my diet and exercise plans ( which I compulsively plan and vow to keep every time my diet slips) seem to always fail. So I decided to keep in my journal a calendar of very easier goals like " by monday I will lose one pound" how much easier does that sound than the regular " ok I wont eat this or that and I'll exercise alot more and I'll lose 20 pounds" ?This may seem like a given to all of you but I find it really helps me to be less anxious about dieting, and less anxiety leads to more success. One pound seems so teeny and unimportant but it feels much more do able and those pounds add up. I end up making better decisions just because I'm thinking " Oh well I need to lose a pound by monday so maybe I wont have any cake..." rather than " I can never eat cake again if I'm gonna lose 20 pounds..."
approaching it week by week makes it feel more like a home work assignment that you need to get done, take one less bite or one more walk and you get an A+! and once you lose the first pound its sort of like " hey that wasnt so hard...I guess I could do that every week"
I dunno, its been working for me...give it a try:)
