Frozen meals?
I picked up a bunch of the Lean Cuisine and Michelina's Light frozen meals. So far, most of the ones I tried arent that bad. Especially if you doctor them up with some garlic powder and a smidge of cayenne. Ive never really been big on these, but they are good to bring to work.
I was wondering, if any of ya'll eat frozen dinners... which ones do you like?
Fri. Feb 9, 4:50pm
I make my own frozen meals with leftovers from dinner the night before. Cheaper and healthier too!
Friday, February 9, 2007, 4:59 PM
Ditto on the homemade, but if I don't have any or nothing I've made lately lends itself well to freezing - Amy's Organics are great (and carried by my regular grocery store). I like some of the Lean Cuisines but find many of them to be less than tempting (should be good for losing weight, but usually just results in me raiding the vending maching). Haven't tried any South Beach ones, so I hope someone sounds in on them.

My absolute fav is Lean Cuisine's Lasanga. Give it a try! You'll be hooked:)
Friday, February 9, 2007, 5:29 PM
I eat one everyday for lunch and am perfectly satisfied for the afternoon. I really like the Lean Cuisine egg roll with rice. The Smart Ones pizzas aren't bad either.
Friday, February 9, 2007, 6:02 PM
I go back and forth between Lean Cuisine and South Beach for lunch. Sometimes the South Beach chicken seems to be of lesser quality, maybe having a little bit of gristle-type fat in it. Their other meats seem fine, though.
My current favorite is Lean Cuisine Salmon with Basil. I also like Lean Cuisine Chicken Marsala. It's much easier for me to stay within my calorie allotments when I use frozen meals for lunch. I don't get hungry in the afternoon.

Lean Cuisine is by FAR my favorite. I love the salmon w basil & the sesame chicken. My favorite frozen pizza is the LC spinach mushroom! LC has great paninis too. No I don't work for Lean Cuisine..haha :) I am pretty disappointed w South Beach overall. Their tomato sauce bothers my stomach & the only thing I do LOVE by them is their non-frozen wraps (in the refrigerated section) that come w sf jello. The breakfast & dinner wraps are pretty bad. ALl the other brands are so-so..I get them if they're on sale. I think Michelina's Light is usually so cheap bc you get less food.

I really like some of the Lean Cuisine bowls - they're in the "cafe classics" line (green stripe on top of box). The grilled chicken caesar is my favorite. I eat it with a fat free yogurt and am full all afternoon.
Saturday, February 10, 2007, 10:40 AM
I eat a Smart Ones frozen meal and an added veggie everyday for lunch. I think they're tasty and with the side of veggies fill me up.
Some of my favorites are:
Pasta primavera (280 cal), Three cheese zita marinara (320 cal), and Spicy sczechuan veggies & chicken (240 cal), and the Oriental chicken (230 cal)

My favorites
I too love Lean Cuisine, and a few Healthy Choice entrees. I'll try anything once. I actually eat frozen entrees for dinner- great portion control!! With a hearty salad I am completeky full.
Favorite selections-
most things with pasta
Spa cuisine rosemary chicken
chicken and broccoli alfredo
panini
original 4 cheese pizza

Trader Joe's has some good ones too in the 300-400 calorie range.
Also recently had a Moosewood restaurant brand penne puttanseca which was excellent.
Kashi has some new ones out; I like the spicky black bean and mango a lot, but the others have meat and I am a vegetarian.
Seeds of Change has organic bowls which look great but are a bit pricey.

Yes... The Lean Cuisine Lasagna kicks butt!
I live on the WW and Lean Cuisine dinners. Like most guys, I cant cook to save my life and I make an unholy mess of the kitchen whenever I try it.
I am sure that the additives and preservatives arent too great but it beats the heck out picking up the phone and ordering 40-150 WW points worth of crap ;-)

Amy's frozen meals
I LOVE the Amy's frozen meals. My favorite are the pot pies. They are incredibly satisfying and tasty, and you really don't feel deprived at all. My problem with Lean Cuisine is that the items always seem a little too small. They just don't satisfy me, and I end up eating something else along with it. But the Amy's stuff is so good I really don't feel like I'm on a diet at all.

Never heard of Amy's. How do they stack up (no pun intended) with respect to point count?
Sunday, February 11, 2007, 9:04 PM
I find I have to be rather picky about Amy's. My big fave is the Brown Rice and Vegetable bowl. It contains 260 calories, and with 5g of fiber and 9g of protein it keeps you full. it is also sugar, dairy and gluten-free. My kinda entree! Not sure how that stacks up in WW points, but here is the link to their site. WW may have some online info on this - this brand is pretty common on the west coast at least and I'm guessing east coast too. Amy's are right next to lean cuisine in my normal grocery store.

Lean Cuisine paninis are by far the best thing that you can buy in the frozen food section. They actually do get grill marks on the bread and make for one delicious low fat meal!!!
Monday, February 12, 2007, 3:55 AM
I really enjoy the WW smart one meals and the South Beach meals... I don't eat them at home but they're really convenient when I don't have time to prepare something to take to work with me! I would definitely recommend them!

Hi everyone,
Frozen meals are great if you're in a hurry, but be careful of calorie and fat count. Some of the Amy's meals can be high in calories and fat. Take the time to check out their nutritional information on their website to save time at the store (www.amys.com). Your best choice will always be homemade, but in a pinch, pasta-based frozen meals seem to be the most filling in my opinion.

Lean Cuisine
I love the Lean Cusine products, the pizza's are delicious and I believe my favorite has to be sweet and sour chicken.... I ate nothing but LC for lunch and dinner for 6 days and by Saturday I had lost 7-8 pounds. I did exercise everyday though in combination with the meals for at least an hour either walking on the treadmill or doing some cardo....they are low in calories and they taste wonderful to me

mmmmmmm lean cuisines! i love just about all of them. the michelina lean gourmet's are pretty good too, and you can't beat the price of 99 cents!
Friday, June 8, 2007, 2:34 PM
I like Lean Cuisine- the Paninis are great. Kashi is also good and tasty. I like the Pesto Pasta best. I also like a couple of the south beach ones.
Friday, June 8, 2007, 2:47 PM
I love Lean Cuisine Pizzas- kinda makes me feel like I'm cheating
I also thing South Beach Diet breakfast burritos are great- they are a substantial size taste good and give you lots or protein in the morning which keeps me from getting hungry too early
I tried south beach frozen pizza and really didn't like it- the crust was funky
Friday, June 8, 2007, 2:57 PM
I have only tried 3 frozen meals and liked them all
WW dragon shrimp lo mein. Good but a little garlicy for me, needs salt or soy for my taste.
Lean Cuisine potato with broccali and cheddar was really good, the cheese tasted slightly powdery but still was really good and felt like I was having a treat.
Lean Cuisine chicken fettichini? Anyway it is noodles with chicken and a white sauce. It was really good. No drawbacks at all.
Friday, June 8, 2007, 3:56 PM
I love Lean Cuisine pizza. I love the Smart One's Pizza Pockets too, although they are hard to find. Lean pockets are great too! I eat a frozen meal every day at work for lunch.
Friday, June 8, 2007, 4:28 PM
Frozen
I am doing Special K diet so I need my dinner to be under 500 calories. So I bought a bunch of Healthy Choice, with the most calories being 370. I also got LC pizza because I need pizza. And also the Michaelinas lean. I usually have trouble finding frozen means because I hate tomatoes, onions, and peppers. So far the ones Ive had have been great.

Healthy Choice meals
My favorites are Healthy Choice Traditional Turkey, Salisury Steak and Meat Loaf Dinners. They're about 300 calories and yummy. I like the Smart Ones Salisbury Steak entrees, too. I like them for dinner because I get home late in the evening and just nuke my meal and it's done.
Saturday, June 9, 2007, 12:14 AM
I like Lean Cuisine's I also really like Stouffer's low fat crustini's. If you find they aren't filling enough you can always add a salad with low cal dressing.
Friday, June 15, 2007, 12:43 AM
I had the Lean Cuisine three cheese chicken today and it was really good.
The cheese wasn't powdery tasting like another one I tried.

Amy's!
Just tried Amy's recently for the first time because my group members love them. They are excellent! Had the brown rice and veggie bowl. Really good...and low in sodium, and high in fiber, and the vegetables taste like they aren't processed. I am not a fan of frozen food but I'll definitely be buying more Amy's.

My favorite frozen meals are the Weight Watchers Smart Ones. They are really good--I eat one with a salad, and a piece of fruit--easy and yummy lunch!
Friday, July 6, 2007, 12:15 PM
Thanks for all the great ideas, everyone! I'm not sure why "grill marks on the bread" are a plus... It's not like they grill them... That's a cosmetic grill mark. But if it makes you feel like you're getting the real thing, then it's worth it!

concerned
I too have been a fan of frozen meals. My favorite is lean cuisine- enchiladas suiza and now they have a similar one called monterey enchiladas. I also like all of their pizza's and smart ones meals are good as well. Why I am worried- I read in Bob Greene's best life book that you shoulld not eat food's that have partially hydrogenated oils, and almost all of these meals have that listed in their ingredients.
Friday, July 13, 2007, 1:34 AM
To concerned and the OP
Go for Amy's. it is organic and you will not find trans fats on the labels. The dishes are vegetarian and high in fiber so they fill you up. I'm not a vegetarian but I love her food.
