More of a tragedy than if she'd lived?

It is sad that she died so young. But as sad as it is...now her baby has a chance at having a normal life.

they think she died in the hotel, but they continued cpr until they got her to the hospital and let a doctor declare her death. so i guess it fits into that gray window....are you dead before they start cpr, or after they stop?

i heard that they don't even know who the baby's father is and are going to speed up the paternity testing now that she died.

8:58, when you take CPR training, they tell you that the person is dead when their heart stops, before you start doing CPR.

I find it a sad indictment on American culture that the entire media can come to a standstill about her death. Yes, it's tragic for anyone to die young. But what is her claim to fame? Does she have ANY relevance to what's going on in the world, in terms of wars, famine, crime, etc? I have nothing against it being reported in the news, but really, when something like that supercedes the amount of time devoted to our troops, etc, it's a bit sad. Just my opinion...

maybe george w. had her killed to remove some of the spotlight from his administration for a day or two...

Heh. I like 2:37's spin on conspiracy theories.

When the news focuses on things like a semi-celeb death that wasn't even a crime, I reckon the world was a pretty decent place that day. No tsunamis, no nuclear tests, no terrorist attacks, no high school shoot-outs.

8:58 poster- you aren't officially dead until a doctor pronounces you dead. Until then, you are PNB- pulse-less non breather.

Once EMTs start CPR, I don't think they're allowed to stop until a doctor pulls them off.

As for the rest, It's pretty sad that the death of a spoiled, gold digging junkie, famous only for being a spoiled, gold-digging junkie gets top billing in the news over North Korea resuming talks about their nuclear program...

well, it's more interesting watching a bomb that has already exploded than waiting for one to explode. (even if it was a blond-bombshell).

I'm not hungering for bad news... I just think it would do the world more good if the evening news depicted what's going on in Darfur, North Korea, or the like. At least there's something we can (AND SHOULD) do about those things.

As I recall, you are legally dead. (Although I bet this varies among countries, if not among states.) The point of telling people this in CPR class is that in performing CPR properly the rescuer may well break or dislocate ribs. They don't want the rescuer to worry too much about hurting the victim to do an effective job. In the event the person can't be revived (CPR almost never works) I think this also protects you from later accusations that the CPR itself killed the victim.

To clarify!

For all of you that are not sure what the Fl Paramedics can do on a cardiac arrest, as a Fl Paramedic I can walk in and place the patient on my cardiac monitor. If the patient is in a flat line which you have seen on TV, I can call time of death right there. We have orders to do alot of things with out having to call a doctor, unlike a nurse. We have the choice whether to work a cardiac arrest or not depending on our medical findings and judgement.
