Things that cause temporary weight gain or loss
To help save my sanity, I thought it would be helpful to talk about things that cause temporary weight gain or loss the next morning. Here are a few items from my experience:
- a salty evening meal, or snacking on pickles, will cause a temporary weight gain the next morning.
- sometimes alcoholic drinks will cause a temporary weight loss the next morning (dehydration?)
- an increase in exercise frequency or intensity will cause a temporary weight gain the next morning.
What is your experience? Thanks.

Temporary gain based on day/night before:
sushi
mexican food (chips and salsa)
movie popcorn
Temporary loss:
skipping dinner. I can lose 1 pound every time.

Increase in exercise causes temporary weight gain?
Hmm... that doesn't happen to me for sure. If anything, it's the opposite. Is that because maybe you get hungrier and eat more?
Other causes:
- Menstruation - can put on 2-3 lbs for a day or 2 for me

No, I'm a nit-picky calorie counter - I even log ounces of water and 16.9 ounces of diet coke when I drink it. It's definitely the exercise increase - seen it too many times for it to be something else. Also, Martin Katahn talks about this phenomenon in his book T-Factor Diet.

oh yes, increase in exercise causes temp weight gain for me, too. it has something to do w/ latic acid in the muscles. also number of hours slept affects me.

Yes, when I exercise I always gain right away! So frusterating and annoying, when that's the opposite of what one needs to stay motivated!!
