recommendation for eye lubricant
On the advice of my doctor i got some OTC eye lubricant for dry eyes. I got a preservative-free brand since I will be using it for a while.
The problems is, it leaves my eye by the route that regular tears do -- right down into my nasal cavity and from there into the back of my throat, where it tastes/ feels just terrible! Kind of acrid. I want to eat just to get the taste out of my mouth.
Is there anyone out there who uses such a product and has found one without an offensive taste?

Now that it's not the "dead" weekend -- anyone? I can taste these things even through my coffee.

I have never heard of eye-drops seeping into the sinus/naval cavity and down the throat. I've been using them for years and never had that happen.
Nasal sprays, yes, but not eye-drops. Most of them are saline-based so I wouldn't think they'd have much of a medicinal taste other than salty. Perhaps when you're tilting your head back to adminster them, you're getting nasal drainage and that's what you're tasting.
Consult your opthamologist.

or maybe you are using too much at a time? this sounds strange. i've used eye drops for various reasons many, many times throughout the years and never had this happen or heard of it before.

Same taste for me too. Thought is was the nature of the beast.

My husband had Bell's Palsy a while back - the doctor prescribed an eye lubricant for him. If you can't get relief from drops/spray, maybe you could ask him about it. It wasn't a very expensive prescription, so it may be about equal in price to OTC drops.

OP here -- not all "eye drops" contain the same things, or are for the same purposes. I'm using Allergan Refresh Endura, which has glycerine as the main active ingredient (obviously some saline to carry it). This is an eye lubricant, rather than lens rewetters, Visine, etc. which are more commonly used. I know other lubricants use other ingredients, so I was hoping someone would know of one without a bad taste... would be interested to know what you are using so I can cross it off the list, 4:56!
3:30, everything that you don't cry out of your eye leaves the same way -- right into the back of your throat. Right, saline doesn't taste like anything because it has close to the same salinity as natural tears.

5:11 do you know what it is?

My eye doctor told me that the OTC Visine type of eye drops actually cause some irritation....
She gave me the following kind: Refresh Tears...
I'm not sure if they are preservative free, but I just put some in, and I don't recall any kind of weird taste...
