Best Arm Exercises

What is your favorite exercise to do to tone up flabby arms?

I LOVE working my shoulders - overhead press, side lifts, front lifts, upright row, clean and press, reverse flies...

Other than that, push-ups work everything, french press and kickbacks for the triceps (the typical flabby arm spots)

my favorites are rows (I always loved the rowing machine) and tricep dips - using a dumbbell over my head and pressing up from a 90 degree angle. The rows are more for your back and shoulders, but they made me feel really good.

Balance Ball Pushups

Pushups!!! They are the best and they work. Try doing them from all angles and positions, and try using a balance ball to really tone diffferent parts of the arm. When you use a balance ball not only are you getting a good workout in, but your arms work different muscles to keep you stable on top of the ball.

I could never use a ball to do push ups as it's too high therefore too easy- a bosu is alright...

And a french press is when you hold a dumbell behind you and press up. A dip is done differently- either on a chair where arms are behind you on chair seat and legs in front and you bend your arms lowering your body, or where on a VKR or other stand or dip bars your feet are bent 90 degrees and off the ground, and your hands are on the bars and you lower your body until your arms are at a 90 degree angle, then you raise yourself back up. A dip always uses body weight, not free weight for resisitance.

It depends on what your goals are, but I really like a lot of Pilates exercises as a supplement to traditional weight lifting. Pilates involves using resistance, and high reps with low weights, also you rarely isolate one muscle group at a time. I bought some tapes for home, I think pilates/ballet gives the most long and toned look, and the flexibility that comes with it is SOOOO good for you!

actually the higher the balance ball, the harder the push up: you balance your middle/pelvis on the ball and you dip down so that your arms and chest are all that is keeping your head from hitting the floor (your legs tilt upwards)

with the bosu, the push-ups are different: you turn it upside down and use it under your hands. i can never do these as I'm terrified of squishing my fingers if the bosu wobbles...

Hmm, I thought a "french press" was a coffee maker. Clearly I am doing something wrong! :-D
