WW leader making disparaging remark when I gained weight from my period
I got upset today, when I went to Weight Watcher's to get weighed in and I gained 3 lbs from my period. She told me I should stay for the "whole meeting" and when I asked her for a new booklet, she stated "oh you're going to stick with it?" I've been steadily losing weight for the last 8 weeks, and when I have my period, I can gain 3-5 lbs, but it comes off 2 or 3 days after my period. I feel like talking to the manager, although I don't have her name. It's taken me a long time to accept that I gain weight during my cycle. I thought her subtle comments were really discouraging and it only really hit me after I left the meeting. Any suggestions?

"Wow! That was just the helpful, positive, motivating comment I needed to make me feel better about the blood flowing out of my crotch and the host of unpleasant side effects that go with it!" :-)
You have a great attitude - keep it up and don't let her ruin your day. I gain a few pounds at that tme too (I weigh myself daily) and that's just the way we are.

I think you are right to bring this matter to her attention. Call the 800 number for WW and ask to speak to whoever is the regional/area manager. It is perfectly natural to gain a few pounds before and during your period. I can gain up tto 5 pounds. She is suppose to be there as a support.

Don't let her discourage you. It is what it is! You will just have to figure once a month you will gain a littla and lose it right away. Everyones body is different. Can you go to another meeting with a new lecteurer. I have been to somany different meetings it is not even funny. I have seen lecteurs really be mean. One time I saw a WW lecteur say be careful how much gree veggies you eat. What a jerk. I think a lb of broccoli is a good thing if it prevents me from eating a lbs of chocolate. WW lecteurs are not perfect

Eh. Dont be so sensitive. Unless you told her it was from your period, and she still said those things, and was really snotty about it.... you shouldnt get mad. Theyre only there to help you.
What if you didnt have your period, and you did gain weight from your current diet? Its her JOB to make sure your going to meetings, and learning everything and sticking to your diet. Its her job to kick your ass a bit and get you to do what youre supposed to be doing. If you could do it all by yourself.. you wouldnt be going to weight watchers.

I'm all for a little tough love from the WW leaders, but--
1) it doesn't sound like she asked the OP why she put on a few pounds;
2) she assumed that the OP either had given up or was going to because of the gain;
3) she wasn't taking the time of year into consideration (not to mention the time of month).
Otherwise I'd be on board with your attitude. I've sat in too many WW meetings where it was a big pity-fest of women moaning about how they had cheated and not lost any weight. It's one of the reasons I don't go anymore.

I think I agree with 7:52
From what I'm reading it sounds like you normally go for the weigh in but don't stay for the meetings. What that WW leader saw was someone who is paying the money, comes to weigh ins but doesn't stay for the meeting with the motivational tips, then when they see a gain says 'oh gosh that's not good I need to get back on track' and asks for a new booklet.
Not saying that is what happened but I can see why she had that perception. I personally would have either said a) I am sticking to it my old book is (lost, too beat up, etc) and I want a new one, I know that I only gained weight because it's that time of the month and don't feel bad about it... or b) would have kept my mouth shut and said to myself she just doesn't understand cause she doesn't know me she's just trying to do her job.
The pity party WW meetings don't do any good, you need someone who when they see you slipping will call you on it to help keep you motivated. If you don't then why not just do it on your own and stop paying the money to WW?

Call the 800 number
This is a great idea. She should not have cracked the remark about whether you were going to use the book.
Some people have other obligations that don't allow them to stay for a whole meeting. WW has their money..she should keep her smartass comments to herself. She should know how sensitive us fat people are!

7:52 Did you not read what theorginal poster wrote? She gianed weight because she had her period. What is your comment about WW being a pity party. Just because when you are down someone doesn't kick you doesn't make it a pity party.

The role of a WW leader is for support and encouragement. If you have steadily been losing for 8 weeks she was totally out of line in her comments. What she said is not supportive, if she was trying to be tough it should be done in and on someone who has steadily been gaining weight not losing. I would talk to her and let her know that it bothered you and hurt you and made you feel like crap. You are an adult you don't have to let her talk to you like that. Instead of complaining to the manager who is just going to tell her you should do it face to face. Let her know how you feel also let her know it was uncalled for since you had your period. I to gain 3-5 pounds when its that time. I would also find another meeting and leader to go to. She doesn't sound like she is that sensitive and to be in that role you need to be and you need to also know how to talk to people the way that it will be effective. But don't let her discourage you, you've steadily lost your doing awesome!

why I'd call someone else
In an ideal world, she would have confronted the woman right there in line. But some people do not like confrontation, she could now deny it, etc.
Maybe others have complained too, and the management will know that with people complaining.

One more thing
It doesn't matter if she had her period or a whole chocolate cake. The woman should not be making judgemental comments because she put on a few pounds.
This whole WW loss thing is very emotional. How do think most of us got hear? She's not paying for someone else to put her down/drag her down. For some people, that would be enough not to go back.
I hear other weight loss programs have one-one-one counseling (more private.) Comments might be more appropriate in that situation. But not at WW unless you were asking for that and were doing some give-and-take conversationally.
