OT: mold allergies, and getting rid of mold in the house

Wondering what you all do to get rid of mold in the air in your house. Seems like it is a pretty common thing and tough to get rid of.

thanks.

My in-laws first had a window open and it rained and got mold on that wall - had to have a special company come out and see what type of mold it was and get rid of it. Then had to tear out all the sheetrock and re-do the walls - not a fun project.

They are doing the same thing in their basement now too.

It depends on where it is and how much if it there is. A de-humidifier can help make it easier to remove and bleach can get rid of it in some cases, but if it is in sheet rock or carpet - generally the only way to get rid of it in those materials is to remove the carpet/sheet rock. :-( Mold can be really insidious. The spores are microscopic and can lie dormat for years.

I will comment more tomorrow. I have a problem with possible mold in my carpet from a leak. I called the carpet cleaning company and they said they use a microbial solution for the carpeting and a de humidifier. If it is in the padding that would need to be replaced.I also called the local vacum store and asked if they sell the stuff and he said they have several kinds and it kills the mold. I will go talk to him in the morning and find out more and try it.
