Crap! I just saw my life and my family's life flash before my eyes!
We were sound asleep here - 2:15 am. Crash, bang in the living room. I sit straight up in bed and my husband says What the....
He goes into the living room and I hear him tell someone to get the f**** our of our house!! I'm thinking crap, crap, crap what do I do? I remembered I brought my phone to bed with me as an alarm and called 911. I'm talking quietly to the dispatcher and still hearing my husband shuffling around in the living room with the guy then he tells me to hang up.
I'm envisioning a gun pointed at him and follow directions and hang up. Well, it turns out the guy was just so drunk he stumbled into the wrong house and kicked off his shoes!!!!
911 of course called me back and the cops are out there in front of my house still trying to find the guy and they found another guy trashed on my street.
I'm shaking like a leaf and can't sleep now!!! We are all safe here, though and we don't want to press charges - the guy was just obviously drunk out of his mind and my husband feels bad for him now.

Yikes!!!
Glad you're ok and it was something like that. I hate to say it but it's a good reminder that it's ok to be a little paranoid. We were burglarized a couple years ago and I take a lot more precautions now as well as make sure I know the contents of my wallet and where to call if things are stolen. You quickly realize that security is an illusion.

I live in Michigan in a nice suburb in an area where people don't necessarily lock their doors when they are home. We do usually lock them when we sleep but my husband had let the dog out and forgot to lock the door after he let her back in. He's definately learned to be better about locking them now.

i don't understand why you did not press charges. people who commit crimes may have an excuse for what caused them to do something "out-of-the-ordinary", but there was nonetheless a crime committed (unlawful entry). luckily your husband did not shoot the guy! luckily the guy did not think he was stumblimg around his own house when he came upon your husband. luckily the guy did not have a gun. people need to learn, not from an idea of how to act, but with a reminder that actions have consequences. hopefully he remembers where his own home is the next time he gets so wasted. and why shouldn't he continue to get wasted and drive around? ( i am assuming he was driving around, unless there are bars in your nice suburb.) nothing bad happened to him as a result. i am glad your family is fine.

Blozzom, you did right - and once you have 911 on the line, a no-explanation hangup will get you one of the fastest responses your police can provide.
Home invasions happen - and you and yours are a lucky exception in that it was benign.
Been thru 2, sent 3 bad guys to jail - racking a 12 guage just deflated all 3. And, for those who'll scream about that, the cops pulled 5 knives, 2 guns some kind of whacko kungfooey sickle off these bums. Get hard or be meat, your choice.

i urge you to press charges. next time, you might be home alone...and a man who is drunk enough to not know his own home might be drunk enough to do something to you...better safe than sorry.

i used to think it was funny when my folks would caution me about talking to strangers or telling people who telephoned our house that i was home alone. now that i am older and have seen the potentially dire consequences of the aforementioned, i am no longer laughing. i would press charges. anyone who gets that drunk needs help, not enabling.

4:15, that happened to me, too, at my family's beach house. i was scared but all the adults laughed it off... also, blozzom, i once called the cops on my dad who was going on an early morning fishing trip w/ a friend and i heard them shifting things... mistakes happen. but i'm wondering why you needed to write a thread about it?

Probably to help relax her about the situation. A complete stranger got into her house....when there is no one to talk to, I find that typing is just as good as telling someone.
Most people put OT before it, but who cares....it was a good read!

It was 2:30 am Eastern time - I needed to talk to someone and there were people on here on the West Coast still. My sister was in a hotel room on vacation so I would wake up her son and everyone if I called her.

We didn't press charges for a few reasons... because my husband felt he scared the kid enough and lectured him on how awful this very well could have turned out had we had a gun or even if my husband hadn't smelled all the alcohol and had gone ahead and punched his face in. My husband knows how the judge here operates and did not want the kid to face the wrath of this judge. We suspect the kid was at a party two doors down from us and since it's a neighbor you like to stay neighborly although we did go and chew the home owner out. The cops caught the kid and I think they took him in anyway for drunk and disorderly conduct. We do not tolerate drinking and driving - had this been someone that had been driving we would have pressed charges.
