Fat people are angry.

Someone hurled this insult at me yesterday. I am still reeling. I've never heard this, not growing up, etc. I'm pissed off, which confirms that I'm fat and angry and now I'm even more pissed.

maybe try to harness that anger and put it to good use-going an extra 1/4 mile on the treadmill or bike, or something similar...venting here is a good release, as i am sure you will find support in your reaction to such a statement.

I can't believe someone said that. It was rude and uncalled for and I hope that you don't let the rude comment of one person affect your goal to continue becoming more healthy. The only thing that makes people angry (fat or otherwise) are people who make unnecessary comments like that! I wish you the best of luck!

when people say dumb stuff, I always remember that it is a reflection of their personality. how could they know you? even tho they may be trying to hurt you, they are really just revealing their own true nature. be glad you found out what they are really like (mean...)

Don't be bothered by this stupid person....if these kinds of people didn't exist, whom would we blame stupidity on...and no, it's not the blonds!

I wouldn't call myself fat but chubby. I can say that was a rude thing for someone to say BUT I can also say that a majority of really fat people I have come into contact with do seem more angry then other people do. I don't say this to be mean just from my personal experience this is what I know. They seem pissed off and are usually barking orders or are just nasty.

Yes some are!

but so are some skinny people!

Maybe the person that said this has only had experience with angry fat people. No not the most "politically correct" thing to say to someone especially someone that may take offense to it as you did.

in general, do most of you frown on all types of comments like the one mentioned by the OP, or just the comments that could be applied to yourself? i find this type of generalization / stereotyping to be upsetting all of the time, even if the comment(s) are directed at someone completely different than me.

I agree, 1:15pm. Besides, isn't the stereptype fat and jolly? And the other is skinny and bitchy? That person was probably just losing the argument and took a cheap shot. That happens a lot with stupid people.
lol

You know what I think? We have become a country of sugar coaters. No one can say what they think or know of personally if fear of hurting someone elses feelings and by doing that we are hurting ourselves. We are a nation filled with all kinds of people, why can't we just accept this fact and stop trying to please everyones sensitivities? I say fuc* "Politically Correct"! Something I recently heard, you shouldn't say Indian style for sitting cross legged, give me a frigging break! I am a native american and I can tell you I don't take offense if I hear someone say, sit Indian style, thats how we sat and that how white men learned to sit that way. So what.

maybe fat people are pissed? maybe that's good?

Someone told me that "fat is the new black" -- ie, fat people are starting to protest being treated the way they are, organize, etc, so that fat people won't be the last "legitimate" target of discrimination.
Otoh, now that I have lost weight I have mixed feelings about "fat power" ... I think that people should stop blaming the victim, and start treating obesity like any other disease -- but I still think it is well worth trying to change and lose weight. Real change for most people will require changes in society though. (more exercise opportunities, better food choices, shorter work hours, etc.)
Maybe the angry fat people can force some change in both directions? If someone accused Malcolm X of being angry, he'd say "Damn straight!"

I don't know if fat people are angry, but I do find alot of them make excuses. I can't exercise cuz I'm too busy, I can't eat healthy because it's too expensive, I can't give up my fave food etc. Quit making excuses, start creating solutions...

That being said, I don't assume this based upon looks. For all I know, the 300lb woman I see at work could have lost 50lbs and be on her way to a healthier self.

anger is often a way of dealing with depression and I think people who are fat are more likely to be depressed.

Blondes are angry ... I can tell you, I am a blond and I am tired of being called dumb - even in this post! I am a slut, but I am really smart!

Not everyone on PT is fat. And not everyone on PT participates in community discussion.

I think PT members likely represent a cross-section of the public in terms of weight, fitness, education, sentsitivity to poor grammar and spelling, political beliefs, as well as mood disorders.

There are also members from other countries and probably even some illegal aliens, who might be mad or fat or both ..

i honestly don't think fat people are angry. i think that is a ridiculous thing to say. i know fat people who are angry-but i also know plenty of skinny and average people who are angry too.

i think ALL people get angry at times...perhaps it is the stares or condescending looks or not being able to fit through spaces one used to be able to, or just plain shame that brings out anger in some fat people while out in public. just feeling like people think that puts one on the defensive right away. the notion that others are making judgements about ones physical appearance and equating that to the person on the inside is nerve-wracking for some. maybe it's tension or an eagerness to please that is being seen as anger? maybe people just notice it more when a fat person is angry, like with any situation that feeds a stereotype.

LMAO - I know a lot of skinny alcoholics

Just because they drink their calories doesn't make them less angry than someone who ate cheesecake. Just more fun at parties.

there is more and more evidence of anger on these boards, lately. so much hostility thrown at others may just send someone into an eating frenzy. why can't people be nice to one another, especially in a place where most of us are seeking support from each other?

tame? wow! i made a comment on another thread and was called a b*tch by someone. shocking! i merely stated an opinion related to the topic. i'll think twice before opening myself up to that kind of response in the future. who does that? some people do not know how to act...

Since you keep posting in an incendiary fashion, you ARE proving that some fat people (you) are angry. Maybe you can let go of some of your anger with a punching bag or getting on the treadmill. You're going to be ok!
