FRIENDS episode?

LOL...your post about using it to quit smoking made me think of the Friends episode where Chandler uses some woman's hypnosis tape to stop smoking and it works, but makes him act a little feminine. That was hilarious.

Tried it once before

I cant be sure whether or not it was youth or it actually worked. When I was a teen, I became very depressed and sensitive over some weight gain after a summer trip. I used some hypno-trance tapes created by a NYC therapist/psychic and put them on before sleep and using them to wind down to sleep. I did lose the weight I had gained but I can't be sure whether or not it was because I was young and metabolism was better or not.

Tried it last night for the 1st time

I did it before bed last night and I actually did what he told me to. I forget what was said until the last 2 minutes where he said the color red and something else and really, my brain was blinded with red and I became more concious and then exactly when he told me to wake up, I did my eyes flung open!

I'll keep everyone posted!

Any time someone mentions hypnotism, it reminds of my mother's experience. Years ago my mother and her friend Joyce went to a hypnotist (for smoking and for weight loss respectively). Well, Joyce got so relaxed she drifted off to sleep and started snoring lightly at which my mother started giggling uncontrollably. The laughing in turn woke up Joyce. The beauty of this program was that the hypnotist taped his sessions for the participants for later reinforcement. My mother later tried to play the tape and as soon as Joyce could be heard snoring, she started screaming with laughter. The tape never helped her with her smoking but she did get huge smiles out of it.

I think its working

After the first day of listening, I went to the gym yesterday by comitting to pick up a friend to come with me. I was DEAD tired having worked all day, gone to classes that night but still did not cancel on the gym. I worked out and felt better.

Food choices have not changed but this could be bec. I am majorly PMS-ing.

I'll keep everyone posted!

My mom and I went to a weight loss hypnosis seminar a while ago. During this time you get hypnotized and you are given a CD and workbook for reinforcement. You are supposed to listen to the CD for 30 days straight.

Hypnosis isn't like what you see on TV. You are still awake, you just have your eyes closed and go deeper into your mind. You can open your eyes at any time and you are still there.

Point being, it didn't work for me or my mom. I don't know, I guess it works for some people, but not us.

The CD was basically a few minutes of taking you deeper, then there were periods where you had to imagine yourself skinny and happy, buying clothes in smaller sizes, eating salads, saying no to 3 foods that you find hard to resist, etc. The whole thing is about 20-25 minutes long.

I really thought this was going to be the solution to help me lose weight. It was not, PT was and is.

It could be great to use the two tools together, PT & hypno.

Tried it and didn't find it extremely helpful.

I went to a hypnotist. It was 100% not what I thought it would be. Here's what to expect. You are given a headset and special glasses that are rigged with a pulsating light. Then the hypnotist pretty much talks you into a relaxed state, leaves the room and you're left there to listen to a tape for 30 - 40 mins. I had a free consultation before buying the package but wasn't given any indication that it's basically listening to tapes. For the package cost, I thought it was a rip-off. You definitely can buy tapes and do the same thing for yourself at home at a fraction of the cost. It's somewhat helpful because it gives a more concentrated awareness but I don't feel it drastically alters behavior.

I went to a hypnotist once for weight loss. It didn't work for me, but I sure got into one of the best relaxation states I ever had and still have a vivid memory of a very pleasant experience. Might even try the tapes if anyone finds it works or at least is relaxing...thanks for this thread.

Does anybody know if this would work for pain? Can you be hypnotized to not feel chronic pain as much? I have degenerative arthritis, metabolic bone disease and lupus, and the pain is crippling. If there's a chance hypnosis would help ease some of the pain I'd be more than willing to give it a try.

to the 12:32pm poster. The same company that does the weight loss CD's has one for pain management. The link is below. We can't offer any sort of endorsement, but the company that sells them is solid and we know the people who run it. It comes with a 1 year money back guarantee, and if you order it please tell us what your experience is here on this thread. If this is something that truly helps, that would be great to know. And vice versa.

I used hypnosis to quit smoking. I had quit a number of times before and always felt like I was "white knuckling it". Once I was off cigs for three months, and was STILL fighting it. After that period of time you KNOW its mental not physical. Hypnosis helped me a lot. I still had to get over the nicotine, but once I did, the mental addiction didn't have the hold on me that it did before. This is after all hypnosis not magic.
Just my experience, hope it helps.

I went to "Lighten-Up" years ago which is hypnotherapy specifically for weight loss and it didn't help me with that. It helped me in other ways but it wasn't worth all the money.
