passing up the sweets

Can you easily pass up the sweets (like cake, cookies, pie)?

I love sweets but I dont have a problem passing on the sweets when I'm in a group setting, but when I'm home alone and we have cookies watch out! anyone else like that?

My biggest downfall is sweets and at college they're EVERYWHERE in the cafeteria! It's so hard and i usually end up getting the ice cream after each meal....Horrible

Yep, if there are sweets in the house I will eat them. My problem times are after lunch or after dinner. Sometimes it helps to drink a lot of water after eating, and/or pop a piece of gum in my mouth.

My rule is that I'm only allowed to eat sweets/dessert in front of/with other people. It seems to help me with proper portion control.

I have cut out sweets for this week to see how i do. so far so good! I definitely want them, but putting my foot down is working better than trying to cut back because i would just allow myself a little, then a little more etc until i was eating a ton anyway!!

Sweets are my weakness!! I tried completely cutting them out, but then found that they were all I wanted. I think just giving myself a set amount that I can have each day helps for me. I know I'll be able to have more tomorrow, so it's not like I'm saying "This is the last time I'm going to have this, so I better really go all out!" Plus, two cookies taste the same as 20 so, as cliche as it sounds, I really try to savor what I have.

This may not work for you, and it may sound weird because it is not the usual diet advice of trying to restrict yourself, but try some weird experiments with your favorite desserts. For example, eat just cookies for three meals a day. How long do you think you could eat cookies and nothing else for? After a couple days, even looking at a bag of cookies might make you want to...toss your cookies.

It also kind of sounds like you may feel some guilt about eating cookies in front of other people, so you refrain, and then you get home and feel like you need to shovel them in to "get them while you can" or like you need to sneak them. Maybe if you let yourself eat a couple cookies with your friends, you wouldn't feel like you had to go home and eat them in secret. Let yourself enjoy a small amount of dessert and share it with someone... try not to feel guilty about eating any food! Just eat it in moderation if you are actually hungry for it and enjoy it.

I'm very good at it during the week, but weekends are different.

I have a terrible sweet tooth and the ONLY thing that has ever worked is to cut out all added sugar/sweet foods entirely. It's killer to maintain for the first few weeks but then my intense sugar cravings mostly disappear.
