Happy Hour Survival
Does anyone have any Happy Hour survival tips? I'm not sure where we're going yet, but I'm meeting with friends for happy hour both today and tomorrow. Eep!
Wed. Sep 13, 12:56pm
I just drink water...lots of it. At first I got alot of slack. Now my friends are used to it and just get me a water when they get their next round.
If you want to drink, you could always alternate water with drinks. Or, if you just want to appear to be drinking, get a diet coke with a lime. No need for anybody to know there is no alcohol in there.

Can you meet your friends some place other than a bar?
As I've gotten older we've shifted to meeting for walks instead.

i agree with the poster who suggests meeting elsewhere, especially since you asked for "survival tips". it sounds like you may be steeping into an overly tempting environment. it's good to recognize this before you arrive!

Since you ARE going to happy hour, NOT asking where else you should go I will give a few suggestions:
Michelob Ultra or Miller Lite, only 95 and 96 calories
Anything mixed with diet soda
Good luck and have fun!

Becks Light Beer - Only 64 calories
Corona Light - 95 calories - this is my favorite
Rum & Diet Coke - 65 calories for each ounce of alcohol

WINE WINE WINE- i don't know anyone who can chug wine, so it always takes a while to finish... plus you look classy and you're getting those heart benefits as well :)
Otherwise- diet soda mixers are a good choice.

just becareful with diet soda as mixers they tend to let the alcohol work faster

I'm with the wine strategy. I can sip a glass of red for quite awhile while 2 cosmos would have quickly disappeared. I find that ordering a house salad witth the vinegarette is a great appetizer. It's cruchy, takes awhile to eat and keeps your fingers out of the jalapeno poppers.
Anyway - good luck and have fun!

OP!!!
well? are you going to tell us how you handled your evening? did you follow any of the advise given here?
Friday, September 15, 2006, 9:35 AM
OP here. Sorry it took so long to get back to this thread. I read it, but didn't have time to repost then forgot for awhile.
But yes, I did use the advice. I really appreciate the suggestion of miller lite. I tried it and it was pretty good. I used that tip this weekend as well. Also, because it's a beer and not sweet 1 lasted me a long time then I switched to water.
I'm headed to another happy hour tonight so I thought I'd come freshen up on the tips. Thanks for all the great tips.

Thanks to everyone who posted here. Great tips. I'm so glad I stumbled (not literally) up it.

I can go through wine pretty quickly, too. Although some wine lovers consider this sacriligous, you can cut your calories in half by having a white wine spritzer - wine mixed with soda water. I also always request ice water, too, and try to alternate the drink and water. It helps, but sometimes I still end up diving into the cosmos and potato skins!
