Poll: What are the best ways group members keep you motivated?
In other words, what works and what does not? I would be interesting to hear some opinions on this!

Simple reminders
My group members often serve as a reminder to do something I said I was going to to. Sounds simple, but that occaisonal "did you remember to eat the veggies you set out to this week" serves as a great reminder. I'm like, oh yeah, I forgot that!

It's good to know (from their comments) that they are reading your log -- helps with a sense of accountability...

this is only tangentially related, but I like it when group members write stuff in their daily notes - it keeps me motived to read their logs and make comments.

Unfortunately the 2 groups I belong to don't have much to say. I keep posting stuff in hopes that we could start to encourage each other but I don't think its going to work. One person wants to lose about 70 pounds but the stuff she eats just blows me away and she doesn't exercise at all. I guess its time to find new groups.

BEST motivation = presence! Just show me that you've been on the website. Group comments are icing on the cake, but if I see that my group members have logged something each day, THAT is motivation. I just need to know that someone else is committing themselves the same way I am - and if we can comment on each other's progress, even better!
And to the above poster... it's taking me a lot of strength to wrap my brain around the concept that some people are just going to spend their lives wishing they were thinner and bemoaning the fact that they are STILL overweight - and that there is really nothing you can (or should?) do about that.
My mother is great for my ego. I call her several times a week to tell her about my weightloss/exercise progress and she MARVELS at what I've accomplished. It makes me feel good and bad at the same time. I love that she is so supportive and happy for me, but I feel terrible that she feels weightloss is so unattainable. I just want to tell her, "I am not a super hero - ANYONE can do this!!" But when I start giving her little tips or suggestions, she has so many excuses as to why she can't do what I'm doing. So - I'm trying to remind myself that she'll change if and when SHE wants to - or she may never change - but that's her choice and I have to be okay with that.

Any reaction
I just like to know that my group members are reading my logs. A lot of my motivation comes from that knowledge that people are paying attention to how I'm doing. So for me, any comment relating to ANYTHING I wrote in my log, whether it's positive or negative, is good. And that goes for the Spotlight section too, if anyone from outside comments on my log. I like knowing that people are actually following our progress, and it's hard to know if no one posts anything.
