JLO - I'm real (the fast version), aint it funny. BEYONCE - crazy in love. DESTINYS CHILD - new one (soldier) and jumpin, jumpin (ladies leave your man at home). TLC - don't want no scrubs. Sounds crazy but I also like Hilary Duff (come clean). Another one that I love is an old one but awesome -- Humpty dance (can't remember who sings it)

Love Milkshake -- that is the best!

I've downladed a few of the songs from the soundtrack "Chicago". Some of them have a real beat.

Electronic dance music

I listen to electronic dance music, typically dj sets. you can find relatively fast music or downtempo or whatever but its a constant stream of music and if the dj is good he/she will take you on a journey and before u know it an hour has past and you've been lost in the music.

at least that works for me :)

other awesome music to work out to are Big Bad Voodoo Daddies, and la bouche. they have some really upbeat songs, also, Cherry Poppin Daddies are cool if you can look past the language!

Gillette

Somehow I came into a copy of Gillette's "on the attack" cd (short *ick man) several years ago. I recently cleaned out my cd's and was going to throw it out. After listening to it, though, I decided to keep it. If I don't feel like doing anything, I put this in. Great for working out-especially if you are not to happy with guys in your life right now! *wink, wink*.

I don't know if age has anything to do with what music we like, but I'm 28 and here's what I work out to:

If I need to be pumped up, sometimes loud and angry works: Linkin Park, Evanescence, Limp Bizkit

If I want to do a lot of self-reflecting and thinking: Anything by Paul Schwartz (The Aria Collections), Josh Groban, Ronan Hardiman (RIverdance composer), and Delerium.

Motivational music: Shakira (good for belly-dancing), J-Lo, Beyonce.

All I know is that I want to have abs like Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas. Probably will never happen, but a girl can dream, right?! And I want to be able to shake and dance like she does. Ever seen the commercials with the people listening to their Ipods or whatever and they're all calm on the outside and their reflection shows them dancing and shaking it and going crazy? I LOVE it! That's how I feel when I'm listening to my music.

I usually listen to the following on my ipod when working out or even cleaning the house...
Anything by the Black Eyed Peas, Prince, Go-Go's, Blondie, Dixie Chicks & No Doubt
Also, agree with previous poster about loud & angry...
Limp Bizkit, Tool, Rage Against the Machine (might be dating myself a bit here)

For more mellow I go for Jack Johnson, Alison Krauss & Dave Mathews Band.

I too love Alisson Krauss for mellow... not really workout music for me though. My fave is still an MTV Party To Go cd from 10 years ago. I need upbeat and fast for working out.

I guess I might be dating myself as well but when working out nothing gets me going like loud and angry music. I listen to a lot of stuff I listened to as a teen, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Ted Nugent, Queensryche, Nine Inch Nails, sometimes I even throw in some Joplin, The Cure.
When I want mellow I listen to my tastes today, Jack Johnson, Damein Rice and lots others. Funyy back then I thought the stuff I liked was hard core, hearing it today I realize how mellow it actually is.

Queens of the stone age! The best. I can't remember what they're popular song is called (came out a couple of years ago) but it is sheer genius. They are the first real band to come out in a while.

found a new one this weekend (well - they're not new, but their new cd). Green Day - American Idiot CD - I've been a green day fan for many years since they are from the bay area - but this CD has to be one of my new favorites for "pumping me up"

The Right Mix

Music is my life so I've researched this subject to death! I've found that I start out my workout just fine but get tired by the third song so I make sure that my third, fourth, and fifth songs are the most intense and effective ones I have in my playlist. So I put a very happy song on first then build on that to my favorite ones closer to the end. It makes me want to keep going so I can hear my favorites. I use two playlists so that I can alternate them every other day and don't get tired of the same thing every day. I also don't let myself listen to my favorite songs unless I'm working out. I love Gwen, Beyonce, Prince, Black Eyed Peas...those are all starter songs for me. But it's the Rob Zombie's and the Godsmack angry music that keeps me going when I want to quit. Living Dead Girl is my last song on all playlists. I guess it's my personal theme song and I won't quit until I hear that song. The Gap Band's Early in the Morning and You Dropped A Bomb on Me are two songs that you can't be still to. You just can't. The Bird by the Time...Give yourself a theme song and save it for last. Put your favorites further down your play list to keep you going when you want to stop. Use songs that carry a personal message like : FIghter by Christina Auguleria, Survivor by Beyonce, RIde Like the Wind by Chris Cross, One of the Zombie songs says "Never Gonna Stop, No, Never Gonna Stop. There's a song called "Let's Go!" and it's awesome, too. It's rap/hip/hop like. P. DIddy has Breathe Stretch Shake too! Good luck!

for some strange reason, I find Phish very motivating. Not the weird atonal stuff, but the jammy, rock and roll stuff.

Upbeat Music

Destiny's child #1s CD has at least 8 upbeat songs. the most motivational one is "Lose my breath" 'with the marching band music in the background. I use that cd to clean my kitchen every night and I definitely plan to use it to get my walk on around the neighborhood track.

also, if you're into it, old skool hiphop like Salt N Pepa also have great uptempo beats to get you movin..."Push it"will motivate you to no end!

I love listening to rock from the beginning of 00 and rap like Eminem. But actually, I would pay attention to how you listen to music. The better the sound system, the steeper the immersion in music, IMHO.

You know, this kind of motivation is not my cup of tea. I usually like to imagine driving my car with loud music. This is amazing. I have already bought my car and I need to check this out and read about under seat subwoofer. My friends told me about this service last month and I haven't checked yet
