Psyllium?

I just had a bowl of ALL BRAN Bran Buds this morning which contains psyllium. I usually eat the regular All Bran but thought I'd try something different, having no idea what the psyllium component was all about.

The cereal was better tasting and more filling that the original All Bran, but as the morning wore on, I began to get bloated and gassy. Now I am pretty uncomfortable. After doing some research, I learned that psyllium is a soluable fiber used for "cleansing" and you should only start taking it in small quanitties until your body adjusts.

I am kind of upset that something off-the-shelf in the cereal aisle can be sold without some kind of warning.

Has anyone else had experience with this and is it worth it?

i am surprised that this info was not disclosed on the box of cereal. i would certainly contact the manufacturer and complain / comment about your experience.

I once bought a bottle of psyllium and tried a teaspoon on some food. Even that about gave me the gas and cramps. Wonder how slow you are supposed to go. I don't have such a big problem with Fiber One with Honey Clusters, or raw wheat or oat bran.

psyllium is flax. ND's use it for cleansing, kellogs obviously uses it to increase the fibre content of food. It doesn't need to have a warning- it's fibre like the all bran. Odds are there's not much in the cereal anyways.

On the box of All Bran that I bought, the risks of psyllium were listed...in small print, of course, but they were there.

Psyllium is the main ingredient of Metamucil. I had a roommate in college whose father was a gastrointeroligist, and the person would take Metamucil every day. Granted, this person engaged consistently in some terrible behaviors, but would never fail to take the Metamucil in the morning. Very funny.
