Calorie Wiki Contest - question for PT
Will you be counting updated versions of previously existing wikis as entries for the new wiki contest? My understanding is that the competition is only counting the new foods that have been added since it started, not any updates.
So for example, if I go and update an admin entry for peas, even adding an essay about the nutritional value of peas, that won't count towards the competition, right?

Each new edit is saved as a version number, and is associated with the user who created that edit. Since we do want complete, interesting and evolving entires, it makes sense to count edits as well as new entries. Having an essay on the nutritional value of peas is of obvious value, and the whole point of this exercise is to create something of lasting value to everyone here.
So your update will count!

OK. In that case, what if I only update with a single sentence that repeats some information already in the nutritional information box?
And what about updating a single item multiple times in the course of entering it? Does each update (say correcting a spelling mistake, then changing a phrase, then going back to add a space, then adding capital letters, then correcting punctuation) count as a separate entry?
You said initially that there would not be anything subjective in the counting. So if you are counting the updates, you must be counting all of them, including every minute and inane and effortless tweak. Is that so?
If not, how do you judge, where do you draw the line, and how do you make the process transparent and objective?
It would be much fairer if you had a clear and detailed set of terms and conditions, explaining exactly what is counted (new items + all updates? new items + some updates? then what is the objective determination of the "some"?) and how it is counted (manually, automatically?).
Your original statement of the aim of this particular competition was that quantity was being measured because you wanted "all our favorite foods to be listed". Now you seem to have changed the criteria completely.

Ok,
This is counted automatically. If someone is doing things in the wiki that are not "in the spirit of PT"-- we will all know. And that person won't be welcome here. At the end of the day, we are a community. Most everyone respects that.
