Soda?
Does anyone dieting still actually drink regular soda (not diet)? Just curious...

Nope, diet only!

Once in a great while I'll have a Henry Weinhard's root beer but generally just diet.

Yes, on occassion, which means no more frequently than once a week. I wouldn't pollute my body with artificial sweetners, so I'd rather enjoy a little of the real stuff than mess with diet.

At home, I refrigerate 6-packs of 16-oz plain seltzer water and, when I grab a bottle, I'll add a couple squirts of bottled lemon juice to create a fairly healthy low-cal soda I like. When on the road, I'll buy a Diet Coke.

I really like italian soda. I have a big bottle of soda water in the fridge, and add some cherry or blackberry torani syrup. You can add fairly little and it is still more appealing than plain water. You can get the torani syrups at Beverages and More. This might be a strategy to wean oneself off of regular sodas.

If I'm out with my fiance, and we feel like being cheap (mostly when a soda costs like $3 or $4, like at the movies or a sporting event), I'll share a regular soda with him, b/c he won't drink diet. But that mostly means I'll take about 3 or 4 sips of it, if I'm thirsty. Sure, I'd be better off springing for a bottle of water, but, sometimes the money is more important.

I will stand up and say, YES I DRINK SODA! I might be the only one on here, but I LOVE it and don't like diet. I am conscious not to buy it in the house, but when I go out to eat, sometimes I splurge...and you know what, I dont feel bad about it either :)

Yes, I drink soda. Who knows what "they" will tell us sugar substitutes are linked to...people thought smoking was ok too since "they" said it was.

I agree with other posters here re: regular soda. I don't like the taste of diet. I occasionally have a soda as a treat, but it's regular soda for me.
I too am leary of artificial sweeteners, not only for taste, but potential long-term health risks. (Look at the decades-long butter vs. margarine controversy)

i am an avid diet soda drinker. i don't believe (maybe because i am naive) that there is really anything *that bad* in diet soda. it's not like soda it "natural" in any way anyways. when i cut diet soda out of my diet initially (i didn't drink an astronomical amount to begin with, maybe 3-4 cans/week) i lost about 20 lbs so quickly!

I'll occasionally have a regular soda for a treat. Generally I just drink water or seltzer though, so I don't typically have to worry about ingesting my calories through liquid.
I just don't like the taste of artificial sweeteners and I think they are really bad for your health. I struggle with other temptations food-wise so luckily I don't have to worry about the soda issue.

i gave up soda period. I mean even Diet soda won't help u lose weight or get fit or help u with ur health. It's been about a year, and when i had my frist soda since then just last week, i got a terrible stomache ache.

I'm not a big soda person and hardly ever drink it... maybe a couple times a month (I'm not allowed to have caffeine) but when I do I go for REAL soda 110%! I have nothing against diet soda, except that I don't like the way it tastes! Anyway, if soda is a real problem for you (as far as weight-gaining) I don't think diet or not is going to make a difference, I think it will be the number of sodas that you drink in a day! Good luck with this, remember your opinion and what you like is what's most important in a decision about taste.

I will drink a regular soda of some kind once in a while like a candy treat when I'm craving it, otherwise I avoid them. And I hate diet pops, not only do they taste funky to me they make me physically ill.

I would think this goes along with any other sweet "snack" you may crave. Everything in moderation works here. Remember though that a can of Coke has like 200 calories in it. It is really worth 20 minutes in the treadmill?
