Weight Gain and Diet During Pregnancy

Consuming a balanced and healthy diet during pregnancy will help your baby get all the required nutrients to grow at a healthy rate. Stored fat breastfeeding and delivery: 5-9 pounds
Blood Supply: 4 pounds
Larger uterus: 2-5 pounds
The total amounts to 25-35 pounds.


You should avoid the following foods as they may contain some disease-causing bacteria.

Undercooked meat, seafood, and poultry
Raw sprouts (Alfalfa in particular)
Unpasteurized milk products like raw cheese and semi-soft cheese.
Raw fish like clams, sushi, and oysters.
Non-dried deli meats
Foods made of lightly cooked eggs or raw eggs.


Prenatal supplements help your baby and you get all the required nutrients during this period. You will however still need to have a balanced diet. You could ask your gynecologist to advise some of the prenatal supplements.
