Warm lemon water

What's the deal with people drinking warm water with lemon? What is is supposed to do for you that cold plain water doesn't?

It's a laxitive. Usually used in detoxing. It helps the colon out and brings the toxins out of your body. The temperature of the water helps the body out so it doesn't have to work so hard to make it the temp the body needs it to be, and also warm because it helps work out the toxins easier.

Laxative or Diuretic?

I thought lemon was actually a diuretic, like apple cider vinegar?

Best to look this one up...

Lemon water used to be the rage with diets back in the day. I remember it was required on the Diet Center diet (early 80's?)

My acupuncturist told me that it helps to clear mucous out of your system and get your digestive tract activated for the day, so recommended it in the morning. I've never gotten to the point of enjoying it though, so stopped doing it unless I have a cold of some sort.

I'd say it's a laxitive. I always have laxitive like symptoms after having the lemon water.

i don't think lemon is a laxative-otherwise lemonade would cause that effect on millions every summer! however-lemon is an antiseptic and it helps clean out impurities and toxins in your system. that is why a lot of people on "cleanses" drink it. i'm not sure about drinking it warm though-i've never heard that.

Op here, I guess it couldn't hurt to try it. I would like to be more regular, and adding lemon to the water I'm trying to drink during the day couldn't hurt. Getting warm water is more difficult at work, I guess I could mix it with some hot water (we have a cold and hot spout on our water bottle dispenser.)

lemon water

lemon water is very common in India, I think the lemon helps to purify the water. At least three detox books I have read recently advise drinking lemon water first thing in the morning, as it helps to detoxify the system. I drink it in an attempt to find something to wake up with other than coffee. Not much success thus far.

lemon is not a laxative-but it helps cleanse the liver of toxins, and helps with kidney function. i'm not sure why people drink it with warm water.

You drink it with warm water to make it easier on your body. The body doesn't have to work to warm up the water thus making it easier for your body to pass through onto where its needed

Lemons, like other vitamin-C rich fruits, were highly prized by the miners and developers during the California Gold Rush in the mid-19th century, since they were used to protect against the development of scurvy. They were in such demand that people were willing to pay up to $1 per lemon, a price that would still be considered costly today and was extremely expensive back in 1849.

I love lemon water of all kinds-temperatures.
I buy minute maid frozen. It is either with the other frozen fruit juices or with the frozen fish. It comes in a box. It is the best tasting lemon out there even better than fresh in my opinion.
I believe Dr Oz said that it wakes up your liver in the morning when you drink it.
I would be curious though if the new true lemon dry packets have the same effect as the fresh or frozen lemon. I like them and they are very convenient.

actually it is a laxitive of some sort, I wouldnt say full on laxitive...but it does help move things a long, sort of like a detox. Helps a lot with consipation too. When you add sugar to the mix, it takes that affect away. That's why it doesnt happen with lemonade. I've been drinking warm lemon water for a year now, every day, and the results are amazing!

Less bloated, less water weight gain, resulting is lost lbs! Skin, hair and nails are fantastic and strong. You don't get as sick either, because of the high amount of Vit C!!!

Its a GREAT thing to try...you'll love the results!

I've been drinking it for the last week because I've heard that it prevents cold, but I haven't noticed any "cleansing" effect. I have been drinking it cold though. Maybe I'll try it with warm water tomorrow morning.

My mom always gave us warm lemon water when we were congested, stuffy or had some sort of cold like that. It always helped clear us up. I think it definitely has some detox/mucus relief qualities. I don't think it is by any means a laxative.

So do you squeeze a lemon and mix it with hot water? What would be the ratio? Want to try it.

For colds and a decongestant my mom always did half a squeezed lemon and 1/2 cp warm to hotter water, when we were real little she put in some sugar but as we got older we didn[t need it.

Lemon juice and warm water

The Diet Center suggested two tablespoons in 8 oz warm water. In the past, I've used tap water and frozen Minute Maid lemon juice.

It's a great morning tonic.

Thanks for reminding me of this. I'll restart the habit tomorrow morning.

warm lemon water

Correct, it works like a filter cleaner. I do know that the warm water wakes up your digestive system. The sooner you wake it, the sooner your metabolism kicks in: Which is good on many levels. The lemon works like a cleaner. They suggest using purifed, filtered or spring water (with good bacteria, just investigate it's source). Also, it is important to make it warm like body temperature...not hot, as; starting at the throat, we want it to start waking up our system. This would also, include your tonsils (another germ defense system) if you still have them. I did this for a week, cutting out: grease, meat, carbs, caffeine, wheat and dairy. I lost 9 lbs without excercise; as this would be too hard on the system. I continued this for another week and lost up to 15 lbs total. The minute, I quit this; I lost nothing. Today, I will start the warm lemon water regimine again.

mixture

I was told to use ½ a lemon with any amount of water in which you would drink the entire glass of. Tap water has chlorines, oxides and fluorides. If you have studied how fluoride helps hide oxides to your defense system and has even aided in Alzheimers, you would not want to drink lemon (a cleaner) with tap water. Personally, I no longer drink tap water nor drink anything acidic (including coke) from a can. It's some scary stuff.

True Lemon

Yes True Lemon will work - It's just dried lemon. I use it away from home when traveling and fresh lemons are not available.

Lots of people drink hot water. Some like to put something in it, e.g. a mint leaf, a slice of lemon, whatever. Adding something to the hot water just makes it taste a little different and look a little prettier. Also, other people may be uncomfortable watching you drink just a cup of hot water, but if you put something into it, e.g. lemon or mint or whatever, they are much more comfortable with you drinking your cup of hot water!

Some people don't want caffeine. Caffeine exacerbates fibrocystic breast disease, contributes to dehydration, keeps one awake at night, precipitates panic attacks, etc. People can have various compelling reasons for drinking something without caffeine but usually it’s the simple matter of people drinking hot water because they LIKE hot water.!

Eating food or drinking drinks, especially hot food or hot drinks, stimulates the gastrocolic reflex in the gut to move food along through the digestive tract frequently resulting in a bowel movement.. It’s the distention of the stomach and the effect of the heat that does it, not added lemon.

Warm lemon water

I actually find if I get a sinus infection, warm lemon water as hot as I can take it makes a world of difference. It breaks up the mucus really well. Cold water doesn't do that. It could have something to do with the fact that warm water is molecularly different than cold water. The molecules with warm water are much more active. And there are enzymes in lemons, as with any fruit. I bet those enzymes are also much more active as the temperature rises.

But either way, the breaking up of mucus still holds true for warmer water, so it's probably too that it breaks down fat better. Whenever you clean dishes you use hot/warm water rather than cold to break up the grease better right? Same deal!
