protein powder/supplements

Has anyone used protein powder or supplements & actually liked them? I've tried lots of protein bars in the past & most taste funny to me (I only like Luna bars & even then only if I'm in the mood). Does protein powder usually taste the same?

I usually make smoothies for breakfast & would like to add it, but don't want to if it tastes weird or gives a strange consistency.

I add Whey Protien (vanilla) to my shakes and it really isn't bad. I drink it alone or add fruit and I like it both ways.

A small amount in a smoothie shouldn't add flavor (unless you get the flavored kind) but you might notice a grainier texture. Try it and see what you think.

There are a lot of different brands of protein powder; they all taste different, and they all dissolve differently. You don't want one that clumps up!

I started out trying Spiru-Tein, which I hated. Ended up settling on BioChem brand chocolate and vanilla flavors. These are sweetened with ? , possibly aspartame. Finally, something that would make that terrible Kashi Go Lean cereal palatable! The vaniila is actually pretty good with breakfast.

One thing to look out for with whey protein is that it can give you constipation if you don't have a high-fiber diet.

blender

Make sure you use a blender to mix it. Adding banana can make it taste better and splenda.

My favorite protein powder is the GNC whey protein in banana. Blend with ice cubes, water, and frozen berries. (or peanut butter)...yum! Or try the vanilla and blend with flaxseed, dash of cinnamon, and frozen blueberries... yum!

I use Isopure Zero Carb Vanilla. The labels says to mix 2 scoops with 12 oz of water and that equals 50 grams of protein. But, because the human body cannot absorb that much protein at one time, I usually only use one scoop. Some of my "recipes" are:

Strawberry Orange Banana shake
I scoop protein mix
2-3 ounces of light soy milk
1/2 banana
2 strawberries
1/2 tsp orange extract
Lots of ice

I then blend it all together. I use the orange extract because I am not allowed to have citrus, but you could use orange juice.

Strawberry Cheesecake Shake

I scoop protein
2-3 ounces light soy milk
3-4 large strawberries
2 tsp Sugar Free Fat Free Jello Cheesecake pudding mix
Lots of ice

Blend

These are only some of what I can think of right now. But, they are really yummy and they don't have that protein "smell"

Protein, in general, helps keep you full longer. Some people also find they can lose weight faster on a high-protein diet. People who want to build muscle also add more protein to their diets. As always, Your Mileage May Vary.
