Fitness Mags
Im not a fitness guru or anything, but I was thinking a magazine might be inspirational to me. Anyone have recommendations? Self? What do you like about them?

both Fitness and Health are great. As is Men's Health, even if you are a woman.

There's actually a Women's Health out now, I like it, though the Men's one is certainly a good one.
I like Oxygen the best of all. Unlike some of the other women's fitness mags, this one doesn't feature all the skinny model type girls but rather shows fit, healthy looking women. That alone makes me favor it. But I find it to be very inspiring and motivational. Plus it has lots of info for helping you make strides at the gym. It's one of my favorites. I think it goes a step beyond the others.
I also could not that I used to read Shape a long time back but it seemed like once you read a few issues that was all you needed to read. They seem to just repeat the same info over and over - it's all just recycled and got to be a waste of money so I gave it up.

I think Fitness is going out of biz -- I got an email notice about renewing my subscription and it said that this publication is no longer renewable. Doesn't bother me...it's a bit simplistic for my tastes.

My favorite is Self. I find Womens Health is more the "guru" type. I like Shape a lot too. I have a subscription to Self though. Ü The both have webistes. Check them out. Maybe it will help.

I subscribe to Health and Shape. I like Health the most, because it covers more than just fitness. It seems to have a bit more content and provides more feature articles. I like reading the user success stories in Shape and sometimes will take away a recipe or a work out routine, however I agree with the user who said they recycle a lot of their content. I used to get Fitness too, and think it was about the same as Shape. They used to have Self at my apartment gym and I would have subscribed to it, except it seemed very similar to Health.

I tried to subscribe to a packaged deal on magsforless.com for Shape & Fitness & only Shape came. I guess if FItness is going OOB that would explain it! Anyway..Self is my fav & I like Shape too. Health is OK..not would I would pick if you want something more for workouts. I tear the workouts out, put them in a clear sleeve & keep a workout binder. I LOVE this bc I get bored so easily I can always change things up :)

I'm a woman, and whenever I hit the gym, I read Men's Health. Love the mag. The workouts they have are great- more interesting than ones I find in women's mags. Plus, I like to play sports, and find they have more workouts aimed towards specific sports (like basketball, volleyball, swimming, etc)

Fitness RX for women and men..

Depends on your gender - and mindset
I'm not a big fan of "fitness" magazines because most of the men's mags (I'm a guy) seem to be more filled with which beer to choose when going out and what's great for sex rather than information about eating and exercise.
What I'm trying to say is, I'm open if anyone has any good recommendations because most of what I see out there is crap.

I like fitness, Self, and Shape magazines. They're interesting, informational, and entertaining... I like a combination of the three.

When I first started losing weight I would read both Self & Shape mags. They are really good magazines to learn the basics on nutrition and working out. BUT, once you already know the basics they are pretty much a waste of money since they rehash the same aticles only in different ways.
Now I like to read the articles in Women's Health mag since their articles seem to be more detailed and aren't as "watered down" as the Self & Shape mags.
