OT: Any Texans own an Obra home?
My husband and I are looking to buy our first home this summer. We live in Houston and are looking for feedback from anyone who bought a home from Obra Homes. Anything is helpful since I can't find much about them on the internet! Thanks in advance!

Obra Home
DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I purchased home from Obra in May 2006.Signed a purchsed agreement stating it would be a HOA and Deed restriction none of this has happened Obra doesnt returned phone I have called several times an gotten no help when we got our 1st bill the HOA I called to see waht was going when would the HOA be switched to the residents instead of a managment company aftervseveral calls an no answers I was finally told we have no HOA. Now this was a brand new community so this has truely turned to a horrible mess. Then to top everything else off Obra has not switched the subdivision over to the county so they are resposible to cutting lots an maintaining what goes on in the community but that is not happening. We are now in the process of hiring a lawyer. This is the worst company I have ever done buisiness we their moto a Whole lot of house for just a little money has some truth to you pay for what you get ...............DONT GET CAUGHT UP IN THE OBRA MADNESS

SAVE YOURSELVES FROM OBRA!!!!
My parents and I bought two homes from Obra in the Fox Hollow Subdivision in 2005 and in 2006. IT WAS THE WORST MISTAKE EVER!!!! very cheap labor and everything is falling apart after only two years. We also have tried to contact OBRA to get them to come and fix things in the house that were wrong from the beginning but it was like pulling teeth! They would come and tried to patch things up but it would not be completely fixed. we are trying to sell our home but i am concerned that we may have to add a lot more money and loose some more since Obra doesnt have that good reputation any more. AND FOR GOOD REASON. all of the neighboors i have spoken to have had problems with OBRA. I read an article today about a ruling in the Texas Supreme Court against Obra Homes. Check it out. We've had trouble with the HOA also. There is none but yet we keep paying so much every year. they do NOTHING.
sorry but we do not have many good things to say about OBRA HOMES NOR THE PEOPLE THAT MANAGE IT.

Obra should not build homes
My Husband and I purchased a new home in 2007. In the subdivision we chose, we had several choices of home builders and thoroughly investigated each home builder as well as went to see homes during construction. Obra homes were the worst. Barely meeting standards, cheap construction materials and what appeared to be the cheapest labor. Now Obra has pulled out leaving vacant lots and mid constructed homes. My nieghbors can not reach Obra to fullfill warranties and corporate office phone numbers no longer work.
Obra advertises Big Home Small Price, well you pay for what you get and it is not much. all though once you close on your home, the following year your tax appraisal will sky rocket to the current market values of the surrounding homes. For Example, Supreme Homes builds a 2700 sq feet home priced at 198,000. Obra builds a 2700 sq ft home and prices it at 143,000. The following year, your home appraisal will be that of 198,000 dollar home because of market value. Supreme homes are beautiful homes with a lot of design, lofty areas and the home seems smaller (small bedrooms). Supreme has brick all the way around and bricked front porches, arches and lovely designed homes. Obra is a huge box with wide open spaces, brick fronts and very large rooms. There is not much of a design, just a box. But your tax appraiser will appraise it at a price that matches homes with the same sq ft, amount of bedrooms and bathrooms, not design or layout.
Another item, Obra uses junk wood, pieces of wood molded together. 2x4's are not one long piece, they are small pieces fitted together to create the length they need. This weakens the support of the home. Texas has tornado's so this should be deeply considered.
*Note: I did not purchase a home from any company I stated in my reply. I love my home builder and would love to brag, but I wanted to make a point about purchasing obra homes.
Investigate your builder, check the BBB for the amount of complaints and how they handled the complaints, that is easy to get on the net. View the homes under construction, Check those bathrooms and your plumbing (numerous homes in my area by obra have had to have pipes repaired). Look for Obras corporate office phone number on the net, they make it hard to find. But you can find other builders easily.
Hope this helps!

ObrA Homes Location
For those of you looking for there location, they are hiding out at: 9186 Katy Freeway on the 2nd floor of Flagstone Lending Group Building. As soon as you walk up the stairs, the door in front of you is their new hiding spot.

OBRA HOMES
WELL IT IS NOT FUN OWNING AN OBRA HOME I TO HAVE HAD MY SHARES OF REPAIRS. OBRA IS NOW HIDING UNDER NATIONS DIRECT LOAN SERVICING INC. I HAVE HAD MY HOUSE FOR SOME YEARS NOW. MY INTEREST IS 11.9%. I TRIED TO HAVE MY MORTAGE MODIFIED WITH THE OBAMA PLAN WELL GUESS WHAT I FOUND OUT THEY ARE MORE OWNER FINANCED. IN THE AREA WHERE I LIVE THERE IS ONLY THREE ORINGAL OWNERS. ALL THE OTHER HOUSE THAT I ARE ON MY STREET HAVE HAD MORE THAN TWO OWNERS,SOME EVEN UP FOUR. WELL AFTER 8 YEARS OF HAVING MY HOUSE ( I AM THE ONLY OWNER BRAND NEW) THEY HAVE FORCLOSED ON IT. NOW I AM GOING THROUGH LEGAL CHANNELS. TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS. I AM A SINGLE MOM AND NOT AFFORD ANOTHER HOUSE. I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT I HAVE HAD SOME FINANCIAL PROBLEMS, BUT THIS PEOPLE WOULD NOT HELP OUT. NOT EVEN TAKE WHAT I HAD. MY ADVICE TO ALL NEVER OBRA. THE INVESTORS ARE FROM MEXICO WITH THE LAST NAME OF CHAPA'S I BELIEVE. SO TO THOSE THAT STILL HAVE YOUR OBRA HOME WACTH OUT. TO I WAS NEVER TOLD THAT THE COMPANY WAS CHANGING UNTIL I GOT THE FIRST COUPON FRON NATIONS. IN THERE WORDS THEY ARE NOT A BANK OR A MORTGAGE COMPANY SO WHAT ARE THEY. KNOW ITS BEEN A WHILE SINCE YOUR COMMENTS WERE POSTED. BUT I HAVE SPEND DAYS LOOKING IN THE INTERNET FOR ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THEM ALL I GET IS DEAD ENDS. GOOD LUCK TO THE REST OF YOU WITH OBRA HOMES.
