Snack Foods
I travel a lot for work, and have been asked by my personal trainer to come up with a list of 15 foods that I can have on hand, and grab to bring with me when I'm in the car all day.
I feel like I keep coming up with the same old things (veggies w/ hummus, veggies w/ pb, 100 cal. packs, turkey/tortilla wraps, etc.).
I'd LOVE some new ideas!
Sun. May 28, 5:21pm
one old favorite of mine is a small tortilla with a thin spread of peanut butter (tbsp or less) and a sprinkle of (generic) grape nuts. Roll up and seal in a baggie or saran wrap... do several at a time and they will keep. Crunchy, gooey...soft all at the same time.

raisins or other dried fruit
I have made my own 100 cal packs by just counting out the calories and limiting it to under (usually) what the regular "serving size" calls for- like 23 whales instead of 33- that is if you want to keep it to 100 cal increments.
boiled egg.
wrap your meat around a pickle or cucumber slice...
kashi bars

Oranges are great portable snack since they are pretty tough in a bag and don't have to be washed since you just peel the outside off anyway. I frequently pack dry cereal, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, and spears of green pepper for snacks at work.

baby carrots, cheese sticks, granola, trail mix (dried fruit and buts, not the m&m kind!), power bars, bag of grapes, banana, beef jerky
maybe some of these aren't 100% healthy (i'm not sure about the string cheese and beef jerky) but it works for me at least!

I forgot to mention that I am supposed to be keeping a high protein diet b/c of blood sugar issues. I used to be able to do this on veggies and fruit all day, but now need to make sure to include protein.

try - Turkey jerkey - but watch the salt on this.
Nuts and raisins are key for me, better than meal replacement bars.
Try soymilk - they make small packs like juice drink boxes, require no refridgeration. I think they are targeted for kids but I keep these in my car for when I need a protein hit. Edensoy makes good ones and there are some with lower carbs, study the nutrition labels though.
The string cheese is great as someone mentioned.
