protein supplement
Anyone have suggestions for protein supplements OTHER than whey and soy? I have tried both and they are very rough on my digestive tract. I am trying to consume 150 grams of protein a day and it's pretty tough without a supplement. Thanks for any help.

It may sound wicked gross, but it could be right for you. Spirulina is a complete protein from algae. Supposedly very digestable and it looks like the dried form has 16g protein per ounce. You would mix dried powder into a smoothie basically, though they give other recipes on the site.

I've heard that it's common to have trouble digesting more than 25g of protein at a time. Perhaps you don't have trouble with the supplement, but are trying to ingest too much at once? Try cutting back and spreading it out over more time.

If you are taking protein supplements in liquid form, I wonder if changing to chewing protein bars would introduce the protein to your system more slowly and help your digestion cope better.

Why are you eating so much protein? Just curious, because that's about 3x what women need and 2x what men need. A number like that only makes sense for bodybuilders.

bah to the PP- I think protein is great and the "needs" are bare minimums.
Egg is good, but rice protein is also an option. Nutri-Biotics makes a fantastic rice protein poweder with virtually no additives. The vanilla has a vanilla cake flavour to it. Add it to strawberries and some milk- reminds me of strawberry shortcake. Their fruit punch flavour also quite nice. Haven't tried the choco.

I agree with the PP about the PP.
I think so many people don't eat enough protein. 50 grams a day? If your working out whether doing cardio or any type of strength training your body needs more protein to repair those muscles. 150 is high for a female (unless working out A LOT), but would be ok for a guy.
I think you may be trying to take too much in at once, when do you usually take the supplement? Before working out? After? I can't do it before, it makes me really ill feeling and I have a terrible workout.
I aim for about 100 grams a day.
I start my day with Eggbeaters 18grams
with 12oz. nf milk 14 grams
lunch
A lean meat and veggie about 20-25 grams
snacks
2% milk cheese, or a hardboiled egg 6-8 grams
post workout premade light whey shake 17grams
dinner
4oz. lean meat, veggies, grains about 20-25 grams
Thats about 100 right there, depending on calorie needs you could up the amount of meat at lunch and dinner by 2 oz each and add a glass of milk, there is your 150.
