This is an excellent question; it's a really good thing to reflect on individually as well as for PT as a whole. I think there are different things - I have been a part of groups that really aren't helpful/people log/post very sporadically/and/or the group dies quickly. This can lead to thinking that PT is a good idea in theory but not actually helpful to me. Once you find a good group, however, it is very helpful, but some people have possibly never found a good group/team. I think a big thing is sustaining motivation - remember that old commercial, maybe it was for nutri-system, where it shows the calendar on Jan. 1 and there is peppy music/motivaiton is high and then the calendar moves on the music gets slow/motivation has just about dissappeared. How to keep up the motivation? I am not sure. I think if you succeed in even tiny steps (lose five pounds and keep it off), that that alone is motivating. I think hearing about other people, especially those that you can relate to, that had success is motivating. What about a public where you put lbs lost (not even what you weigh, just -.5 for the week, -2 for the month)...but there again, I think the people that already have the motivation, have it, and those that don't, don't. Anybody else have suggestions? Finally, no peelout should not shut up - it is great food for thought.

above poster cont...meant to say public log or graph.....my other thought is finding that balance between those times when your motivation is so high you make huge goals and go all out for awhile and then burn yourself out and go back to couch potato mode telling yourself it's a temporary break but temporary becomes permanent or until months later, when we get back on the high horse. We need to find our grey area.

its all mindset.. set your mind and the rest will follow- so much truth to that.

coming from a long time member of pt and one who has released 204 pounds with 31 to go to 135.

when i first found this site in 2007. it was buzzing. the teams were busy. we did challenges every week. over time some of that has died out, but what kept me coming back after making many different accounts on different sites that has bells and whistles pt doesn't have is the family feel i get with my groups and team. i literally think of you all as family.i know i can share anything here. i feel safe,

i do not think people stay long enough to get that feel.. i do not think they jump in. they may feel like we know each other so well and they feel like a third wheel, but if you speak up, comment jump in you become part of the family. it doesn't take long. were here to kick your ass, but encourage you too,.

i know you have heard it over and over but progressnotperfection2014 rocks. its active. we do challenges. we really are a family we pick on each other like bro and sisters,i think knowing that bond is there in that team we can share anything. turn to each other instead of food.that's BIG for me. we hold each other accountable. if you looking to be coddled. not gonna happen.. support, encouragement, kicks. is what you will find.

support system is deep.. my first leg of my journey i did it alone.. than i found pt.. and i realized im not alone.. i live in a divided home , noone eats healthy. so i need my PT family.

i think you have to have a MAP as i call it. master action plan.. baby steps broke down towards achieving your goal.. i think this stops the gung ho release weight than loose momentum.because you continue to stick to your map.. people try to bite off too much than they can chew than get discouraged when things go at a slower pace.

three of my biggest rules in my map

1 water 64 oz min daily
2. eat nutrient clean eating- foods good for my body
3. exercise 30 min 5 to 6 days a week- this keeps me energized and on track.

the biggest thing that came with PNP was the C ore Rule challenge peel created. it helped me to focus on making small changes and doing them everyday.it added to my MAP and made things more focused. i cant think Peel enough for that.

you have to have a plan.. going at this without a plan is like taking a trip without directions to where your headed.. you are bound to get lost.

i think too many people try to justify their choices.. there is no slips.. you make a choice.. but you can get back as fast on track as you went off.

i have been a rocking horse many times yoyoing.. mine was a deep seeded fear of reaching my goal weight and having loose skin so i would self sabotage, but i finally realized. whatever happens im still going to be healthier without the weight. i think sometimes we get into our heads too much. we let fears hold us back. i think some people are scared of what attention they may get with less weight so the weight is used as a shield..many reasons people may have of not reaching their goal weight.

my bro told me the other day you can eat anything you want, but you choose to eat the way you do. hes right its my choice because its whats good for my body. im gluten free, sugar, dairy, meat, egg, soy, i make all my foods because i know whats in it.

i no longer have the all or nothing approach. i occasionally will still make a wrong choice, but the world wont end. i make a u turn and get right back on track.. i also have a three bite rule. i can eat 3 bites of anything no guilt.

its all about finding what works for you. noone can do this for you, but we can do it with you if you give us a chance.

i am over the fear.. im working in small increments towards my goal.. ill cross the finish line this time. my mindset is different . its changed. this is now about being healthy not just meeting a number on a scale.

wow didn't mean to ramble so much, but just some thoughts.

Still motivated

I am relatively new to PT. started in April . I started with JJ Virgin and then got an email about this place. I love it here. I love the whole concept of healthy eating- really healthy- that allows real life goofs to be okay. To be able to forgive myself and get right back to business without the major guilt trip and ultimate quitting. I love the emotional support and constant information given by Jackie's team. I have learned a lot. I have lost 36 pounds and am walking again. My challenge now is to keep it up and add more improvements. I have reached a point where I am feeling and looking so much better that I am getting sloppy and lazy with some choices. But I know I am in this for the long haul and slow and steady is just the way it is. I am retired but am very busy and the members in my groups are very busy. They are very positive and check in when they can. It is definitely an ongoing struggle that we are all going through and together is better than alone because we are like minded. We get what we are doing and think it is the right path unlike friends and family who have negative opinions of it. I like the idea of a map. I am sloppy about my water and also need to improve my sleep habits. I think I will be here forever, at least I hope I will. This fits me and I love reading posts like this. But it is not for everyone and maybe they try it and it doesn't fit for them and they move on to something else. Thanks for sharing.
