EMAIL THREAD
Olive Oil e-mail from PT
I've been getting the URGENT e-mails about Olive Oil from Jackie with the link to a company who sells great olive oils. Well, I just got an e-mail from another source - the Real Dose people - another product Jackie endorses...and there was a newsletter with strikingly similar wording to Jackie's email about getting the free olive oil from a friend - yada yada yada - get your free bottle now with this exclusive offer just for my readers, etc. ...at the end of his email, though, is a note about - Full Disclosure, I get compensation should anyone click on the link and buy the olive oil.
I don't even know why I'm writing except to say I'm kind of ticked and feel duped by PT.
That's all.

What do you feel duped by?

I feel like its a bunch of salesman all with the same script and story to sell a product for which they get compensated vs. a genuine - love this stuff - gotta tell you about it. When I read the other email and it was pretty much the same script, it just felt UGH. And if PT is getting compensated for sales, but is not disclosing that - UGH UGH. Either way, It makes me very wary anything else getting endorsed. I don't know...It just left me with a bad feeling about all their e-mails.

While I do agree PT should be disclosing the affiliate links each and every time (I think I've only seen it disclosed once), I don't agree that PT consists of a bunch of "salesmen". Yes, PT's goal is to sell us their products and services, but that stems from a true passion (as far as I can tell -- I don't know any of them personally) for the health field. They can't offer a free site with lots of great articles without funding.
Look at nearly any established blog or site out there -- if they are giving away great information on a consistent basis, they are likely using affiliate links to promote products they stand by and generate income so they can continue making a living doing what they are passionate about. Some are just better than others at disclosing those affiliate links.
Based on PT's support of Thorne products (some of which are also sold at LIfetime gyms), I'm pretty confident in the products they promote. Does that mean I think the products they promote are better than any others out there? No, but I think they're at least worth considering and comparing with other high quality products. Bottom line -- do your own homework. Once you have it narrowed down to a few, go with the cheapest option that meets your criteria and see how your body responds.

It was my gut reaction based on almost identical e-mails from another source. I hadn't given the olive oil thing much thought until then. I didn't say they were a bunch of salesman, merely that the whole thing reeked of that once I saw another source put out the strikingly similar warning and sales pitch for the olive oil. In any case, it was a total turn off. That's all. I don't fault anyone for making money or that income is necessary to run a website.

Lol -now that I think about it they are a bunch of salesman, and that's okay. I have no problem with them selling the hell out of their cleanses and classes. I have bought into and have really benefitted from many of their products and services. I've touted them to others and linked them to PT's site and emails. The olive oil thing just hit me the wrong way and left me with the bad taste of grocery store olive oil!
