Overeaters Anonymous
I'm an old member come back to Peertrainer after a long hiatus and 25 pounds gained.
I know I have an addictive personality and I know a lot of this weight gain stems from my addiction to binge eating at night. I'm curious about Overeaters Anonymous and wondering if any of you have tried it and what your experiences with it have been.
I'd love to hear some advice, OA success stories and any words of wisdom y'all have for me.
Thanks,
umchicana

I also have had issues with binging and have had issues with addiction to varying degrees in the past with various illicit vices. I've never done OA, but I am familiar with some of their work -- a team member posted some of their info in community tab section of our team which is not relevant to OA, but just wanted to share the info.
Perhaps you might find a worthy jewel of knowledge, maybe it won't totally resonate for you, or if you're fortunate, it may provide answers and peace. I don't know, but it is always worth it to seek out a wide scope of information.
I've come to realize, for me, the binging really does come back to emotional eating. I thrive on pleasure and endorphins, even when it's self destructive. Running helps TONS! but not entirely... meditation has been a godsend. but I still have lingering self destructive thoughts every once in a while.
I hope you find much success, peace and wisdom along the next path you explore. Umchicana, I love your voice and writing. YOU ROCK!! ;)

Thanks 6:56! I appreciate it.
Also, thanks for hte OA Grey Sheet. I appreciate it. I found a meeting in the town I work in and am planning to attend it tomorrow. We'll see how it goes.
I mean I come from a family of people with addictions. My cousin is in rehab right now and she had to do an "addiction family tree." When I went to visit her we talked about it and discussed how it wasn't a tree rather it was a "motherf*&%en forest."
I was going to Al-Anon to and it helped me to a certain extent but I just didn't stay dedicated. I feel I should go back. I feel like OA will really help me in the long run. I always go back to the binge/emotional eating and I can't seem to pinpoint exactly what it is that's driving me to that behavior.
Thanks again for the help PT fam!
